I've been here many times before but thankfully not for 8 years.

I've just found out that 2 of my friends have been killed i just don't know which ones yet. I'm crushed.
I've just found out via whatssapp whilst i'm trying to edit an interview for the next podcast.
It puts everything in context really.

Helicopter flying is ****ing dangerous. I'm at a loss.

Per ardua ad astra lads.

Terrible news mate, heart goes out to their families and friends.

We all owe a huge debt, to the lads and lasses putting their lives on the line.

As you say it's sobering and puts things into perspective.

Sad news indeed. Hope your ok bud

Jez, that's devastating news. I was up at Benson just recently talking to some of the Puma II crews as they talked us through the upgrades to the Pumas. Great chaps who without a hint of smugness declared that they, without any doubt, had the best jobs in the world.

Small comfort that those that died did so doing what they loved. Sad news indeed.

Hey Jez,

I heard about a RAF helicopter crash on the news at ten this evening and thought of you. I didn't get all of the details of location etc as it was on in the background. Whilst you have my deepest condolences and thoughts for the sad loss of your friends I am ****ing glad you are posting on the forum tonight.

Stay safe buddy.

Really sorry to read this Jez. Thinking of you and their families - stay strong

Pretty much word for word what I was gonna say. Thoughts are with you mate.

Really sorry to read this Jez, thinking of you, your colleagues and their families at this time. Thanks for everything you and the rest of the RAF do to keep the rest of us safe.

Really sorry to hear this fella. Wish you and everyone that knew them all the best at this sad time.

Thanks lads, excuse my semi drunken ramblings.
I found out a few hours after my initial post that one of the guys killed was the chap I handed over to.
I was the 230 Sqn Crewman Leader, last year I handed over to Flt Lt Roly Robertson who has paid the ultimate sacrifice "that others may live", he along with the smashing bloke Flt Lt Al Scott are no longer with us.
It's a difficult time for everybody I work with. The difficult part bring we've been here loads in the past and we'll be here again.
My thoughts go to Roly and Scotty's families.

God speed RIP

For Al & Roly.

I do what I do because it is the right thing to do.
I am a Warrior without shield or sword.
I fly because it brings help to those who need it. I am an Aviator and live among a band of brothers who know the meaning of risk. I spend my short time on this earth meeting challenges others seldom face.
My end may come swiftly and violently but I will know I did a worthy thing.
My name will live in the hearts of those who knew me and my epitaph will join an honourable list of those who lived among the clouds and went before.
The sky will be my memorial - on a sunny day with a soft, cool breeze, a stormy day with a sudden gust - I will be there; smiling and watching, loving and longing.
I lived a worthy life.
I was a Warrior.
I was an Aviator.

High Flight

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, --and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of --Wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air...
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew --
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Per Ardua Ad Astra.

RIP.

Great Britain are lucky to have the best armed forces in the world. Quality, not quantity.

All the best Jez

Had a little chat last night and I can only imagine how hard it is to loose friends/comrade's/mates/military family like this.

You are a strong man Jez and have supported me with a lot of stuff but don't be afraid to call on me or any of us for any form of help you may need, even if it is just a chat.

Keep strong buddy, love ya dude!!!!
