Surely everyone has been in this situation? There's a shop near me that contacted me because they had bought a van full of Star Wars stuff from a collector and it was all dated around 1984. So they send me this photo.......

Obviously i let them down gently and inform them that it is mostly 1995 Power of the Force onwards ****, aprat from the odd baggie with loose incomplete vitange figs in, and is not worth a bean compared to the vintage stuff but no, they are not having that and have spat their dummies out! They seem to think that because i want to buy it then i am trying to get the price down. Basically i told them that i am only trying to help them and will identify pieces and value if they want but no, cos' it says Star Wars on, according to them they are all worth around the £30-£40 mark per item. Jesus wept. I even keep showing them the dates but no, they are still made in 1984  Ok then whatever. I reckon they are just mega pissed off and embarressed because theyve blown a wad of cash on this shite and i am determined to find out how much they paid  Anyone else have similar issues?

Not at that scale but every car boot sale all I hear is But it's SW.
A friend of mine who collects records says the same about the Beatles and oddly Pat Boon.

As far as I can see the only Vintage there is a Star Wars Board game and the ROTJ Sarlacc board game.
fish them two out and burn the rest....

Some poor bugger eagerly bought all that stuff up the day it hit the shelves thinking he'd sell it years later for a huge profit - can almost her him convincing his wife "honestly dear, this stuff will only increase in value, we'll be sitting on a gold mine, just look at what the stuff from the 70's & 80's go for now, it's a sure fire investment" :(

Oh wow. Yeah, i would even pay £50 for that lot. You'd just never shift it and if you did you'd be getting peanuts per item. £2 here £4 there. Maybe a tenner on your best 2 or 3 items. What a load of ****.

Would love to know what they paid for it, but yeah that looks like a giant pile with only a few nice bits that are OK.

The worst I get is people at work wanting to know if the stuff in their attic is worth anything, I usually smile and try to get out of the conversation.

Same deal I found when a buddy told me his friend had a huge collection for sale. Mostly modern...which he thought was worth thousands. The kicker is he had a star wars case with 24 vintage complete figures, a boxed Vintage DV Tie, Slave 1 and Imp Attack base. He thought this stuff was old and as it was not MISB...worth alot less (Go figure)..anyways scored it all for $100............and he wondered why I did not want the rest.  :?:

My step dad is a collector of various things and loved it when i got into collecting SW in the 90's. At first (because that's all there was) he would pick up vintage stuff for me, but it quickly became anything with a Star Wars logo. Didn't want to seem unappreciative at the time. Still have **** loads of it boxed up :| He still picks up things that come through the charity shop where he works. Mostly Episode III onwards but the odd decent vintage crops up :)

Rob mate even if there are 5 vintage items there, the point is, these guys are trying to tell me it's ALL vintage dated 1984 and worth a bomb. Like i said, there are a few loose bagged up older pieces scattered around, but nothing to write home about.
To make matters worse ( for them anyways ) they've got it all on display in a massive 30 foot long shop window so pretty soon they will be able to add extra yellowing to the expensive key ring bubbles :p

As you say there's probably a bit of face saving going on with them, they're sore about being stung rather than spend 10 minutes doing some research first - clearly all your fault
