J.J. Abrams to Direct Star Wars Episode VII

OK- as said in other thread:

Man- I'm well pissed off.

Lens flares are cheap light scribbles that age the film. Lazy filmmaking.

And the half corkscrew, pendulum camera angles are a salute to 21st Century cinema 'exsperiences' rather than the art form that is evident throughout all the compositions in Empire Strikes Back.

And whats stopping it looking like another fecking star trek reboot?

What the ****!?

Someone talk me out of this please

theres episode 4,5,6! then theres nothing else just 3 films thats starwars for me!

i actually didnt mind the new startrek isnt there a new one in may its got the sherlock holmes (bbc drama) dude in it i believe

Well I think this is good.
Personally I have been a fan of his since Alias hit the screens.

His work on ST was good, very enjoyable and he does focus very well on characters which is something that was a bit thin in the more recent films. I think until plot lines are known and with JJ that will be the at the last minute it will be hard to say much. But yes, Lost, Fringe and the new ST all had time travel threads but SW has gone down that road as well, Dark Horse did a special story that crossed KoTOR, Dark Times and Legacy and while back.

My hope is better character, more exciting and action driven plots (no more senatorial debates) and a lot of fun, and Abrams has a strong track in this area.

Let's all face it, he can't possibly do a worse job than George did with 1-3!

I think we're in fairly safe hands although I still would love to see the David Lynch version of Jedi if it had happened, maybe Jabba would have ended up being more like Frank in Blue Velvet, I'll **** any droid!!!

I watched a few early episodes of Lost and saw Star trek through one eye as I was pissed,. Didn't really have an opinion on either just pretty average.

He can't do much of worse job than the prequels, surely. So I remain with an open mind.
Surely a lot of lessons have been learnt from the prequels and the amount of blue screen used.

Agree 100% with the above :)

They'll have to REALLY try to make them worse than episodes 1-3. Other than Natalie Portman there's very little going for those monstrosities.

I wonder what Walt Disney would say about trusting a Jew with his billion dollar franchise
