I've not bought anything for TFA yet, am i the only 1?

Great thread, something I've been wrestling with personally. I haven't bought any vintage for over a month, mainly due to a) nothing has tiggled my fancy and b) all the new stuff has been a distraction.

Since Force Friday I had been collecting the Topps cards, got a Sphero BB-8 and as I'm fortunate enough to have 2 Disney store with 7 miles from me I've been buying the 6" die cast elite series figures, one per week. I have drawn the line there though, the Hasbro stuff I got at TRU I gave to my son as a late birthday present. Must keep telling myself it's junk.

I'm also off to Florida for a week in November so saving up for that, FARTHEST FROM will only a couple of weeks after that, reckon it's going to be a big one so plaaning to reboot my collecting then ........and then a few day after that the FORCE WILL AWAKEN.

I have not brought anything from the new film, and I have no real desire to buy toys of characters I've not been introduced to, and as cool as the new stormtroopers look I just can't get into them, don't get me wrong I'm excited about the films release, but think I will be more excited about Rouge 1 it's got stormtroopers I know in.

I bought two TFA figures and now stopped. I looked at them on my shelf and realised I have no emotion connection with them. For me Vintage is about the memories of my childhood. Completing the collecting dreams of my 5-8 year self and looking back on the ones I had from my childhood with joy. When crazy adult life kicks in it helps me remember a more peaceful time. So no more TFA for me.

I broke down.

I bought a Kylo Ren and a Captain Phasma. Originally, it was to help someone else as both of these guys are supposedly tough to find. However, my 6 year old has been watching the trailer, and seems to really love that dumbass-looking lightsaber. He also is a big fan of Stormtroopers/Clonetroopers, and has started asking me for SW stuff for his birthday/Christmas. So, before I even got a chance to offer them to anyone else, I've decided he's going to get them for his birthday at the end of November.

I already feel dirty.

I still want to. I keep on tempting myself, but nothing yet. Going to Disney next week so might come home with all sorts!

I've bought lots (too much in fact) mainly because I've been loving going on toy runs with my daughter - to be honest I'm a wee bit pissed off at the price, specifically the price difference between us and America, we pay £9.97 in Asda but Wallmart is $6.94 which is £4.50 so we are paying over twice the price for a basic figure. Wont be buying anymore....well I say that but when Han, Luke etc are available I'll crack!

Been really tempted, want some stormies for the focus, but someone mentioned ducks, and I googled howard the duck and put the pics side by side with the 1st order stormies and can't get it out of my head....
Still my avatar pic looks great though :p

Maybe after the premiere....

O-M-G!!!!!!

What the heck is going on Ian? Next you'll be wanting to see the movie! :)

Pat

LOL Pat. Not a chance will "I" want to see this movie.

However, tonight, my little guy was telling me how badly he wants to see it. Now I'm torn. I still have zero interest, but I'd be a dick if I denied him because of my own views on it.

I want to just tell him to wait until we can watch it at home on the 60", but even then I know full well it isn't the same. We have a sweet copy of Jurassic World we've watched here at home, but we also took him to the theater to see it, and it doesn't compare.

Dammit.

LOL Ian :D

I thought i was in the same boat but Sonny is into Marvel in a big way at the moment. he has said to me that he isnt bothered about the new film, and when he saw the new stuff he didnt like any of it. Picked a Marvel CA figure instead :D

With regards to someone saying that the new stormies look like Ducks, it was me that first suggested that  Its true, they do look like Howard. However, if Lea Thompson gets her kit off in TFA then ill see it....

Ian and lee should go and see the film together I think.

Look at the auction title for this BB-8! Remote technology has clearly come a long way.

I went to my first convention/fair last weekend and there were several of these new figures there, I wasn't inspired enough to even pick them up. Plus seeing tv ads selling Star Wars batteries and people hocking stuff on Facebook aren't helping either.

I'm underwhelmed by it all really.
As a Star Wars fan and vintage collector, I've actively tried to go shopping to get excited and pick up a piece or two, but I keep coming home empty handed for three main reasons:

1) Its all so expensive for what it is.
2) The artwork on all the packaging I've seen is truly terrible (and no I would not want it to be some tacky pastiche of the vintage products), it really puts me off as I know it would just jar with all my other toys on display
3) I really don't like the look and design of modern figures, to me they are too detailed and not focussed on being played with, just displayed.... its a bit sad really. I'm all for toys being collectable or just collected, but they should in my mind still hold the main function of being a toy, everything I've seen has definitely been designed to be a collectable or display piece first and a toy second.

I have though (in contradiction to all of that), bought the Sphero BB8 - It's the only figure that seems to completely fit the original aesthetic, Rey comes close, but still feels like a a little like a prequel character and most of all its an interesting technological gimmick... lasted no more than a day though before we'd all got a bit bored.. a nice piece to sit on the desk.
I have also bought some of the Topps cards to collect... no swops ..... Yet

But.....but......you guys aren't REAL Star Wars fans!!!! :?

At least that's what I was getting told on Facebook after that Farce Friday fiasco, when I was one of the only people in the world it seemed that had nothing to do with the mad rush to buy everything.

Nice to see I'm not alone here.
