I've not bought anything for TFA yet, am i the only 1?

Sorry this collector will not be buying any Tfa , I am definitely old school , however if someone bought me any it would get a wee display area

Same as everyone else - I've not looked at it and have no interest. I bought waaay too much into POTF2 and Ep 1. One day I looked at it all and realised I wasn't buying it because I actually liked the figures; it was just a 'gotta catch them all' mentality. Got rid of them quickly and now it's vintage all the way.

Only TFA merchandise I'll be buying is a cinema ticket

Some of you guys must still have attics full of TPM items. In years to come it'll be the same with TFA stuff. If my TPM collection was worth anything I would sell it all right now!

I agree with Lee.

Careful Ian... Careful. It starts with agreeing with him.. Next youll be at Kenilworth Road shouting "come on you hatters" and its a long road of failure and disappointment from there...

:)

I didnt buy TPM to make money out of it. I really liked the figs and have a full carded set. I liked the commtech chip as it doubled as a figure stand.

I have a TFA Rey focus to compliment my other collecting focuses. Maybe people just like the stuff because its star wars?????

I still collect vintage too

I fail to see the attraction of why people spend such amounts on the new stuff, but its their choice

1, its star wars
2, its star wars
3, it brings back a little bit of that feeling to when we were kids looking into the store wishing we had unlimited funds to buy everything we wanted..
<shouty froth mode ON>
4, ITS FREAKIN STAR WARS AND THIS IS A PLACE WHERE STAR WARS COLLECTORS GATHER.. WTF DO YOU THINK A STAR WARS COLLECTOR IS GOING TO DO IN A SHOP FULL OF NEW STAR WARS STUFF???????????????? ARE WE STARTING TO SEE THE ATTRACTION YET LEE?????????
<shouty froth mode OFF>

:D

No-still not seeing it :)

As i said before, im really happy for you guys and that you are feeling the buzz. Just think that Disney are milking it to buggery. What next?? Disney blue mlk actually suckled from Leias knockers?? Anne Summers releasing a few new items - R2 dildo etc? Rancor poop facial treatments??

Its getting way out of control :D They are targeting the collector, and not kids as it should be.

yeah.. this sounds great.. where is it???

Pete I'm interested to know whether you bought the other recent Star Wars toys - black series etc or if it's just ep 7 toys you buy?

To me they are all the same and have no nostalgic value, but can understand completists going for everything

If just ep 7 - then why not the other modern stuff?

I did wonder if there is more of a split between those with kids and those without.

If I came home with loads of modern Star Wars there would be some pissed off kids wanting their share - easier to justify buying vintage :)

From the point of view of the toys. You are right,I don't get that same nostalgic buzz. I have steered clear of them completely which is the big mistake I made with pof2 and the prequel stuff.

But from the point of view of the other stuff, I take everything in isolation. I have started collecting the cards, why, because I like them. Simple as. Not going to turn my nose up at something because it's new. The sphero bb8 for example, is ****ing cool as an individual item. Chances are if I had found sphero before the bb8 I would have gotten one anyway. The fact it is Star Wars is the cherry on the cake.

Just approach it with the mentality you don't have to buy everything, you don't even have to buy anything but if you like it, it's still Star Wars.

You're first instinct is usually the right one Jez. The fact you didn't dash out and buy any prob means you're not bothered. I'm with you. I'm curious but I don't want to spend any money on them. I would rather spend it on vintage. I did get bought 1 figure last week for my birthday from my mate and his wife - a Tie Fighter Pilot. I like it and I'm glad to have it as it was a gift from them but I won't be getting any more.

Happy belated birthday hope you had a good one. :p

Thanks Adam, big 40. Had a party.. all got a bit messy. Ended up with loads of people/kids all standing around gawping at my collection! :D

Not for me thanks, I don't like the packaging on the new stuff either!!

I do think the phone controlled BB-8 is pretty cool but i know i'd be a bit disappointed if i bought it because crazily a small part of me would want it to be a real actual working droid and it would take the shine of it that it wasn't!! (I know this sounds a bit loony).

I might buy my son a few figures but to be honest he's quite happy playing with my beaters and because he hasn't seen the film yet, he's not bothered.

To me its a fantastic celebration of STAR WARS.

A lot of the new stuff doesn't bother me as I have no idea who the characters are and most of it is for children.

I have bought some TFA First Order stuff for a few simple reasons.

01: The designs on the new stuff is fantastic. Having seen the Kylo Ren, stormtrooper, flametrooper and snowtrooper costumes in Anaheim, I instantly feel in love with them. I freakin love the design on BB-8 as well. He's like a new kitten in a family of cats.

02: Prices for vintage are ridiculous and I refuse to pay the kind of money for things that have hiked this much. Its take ROTJ MOCs 30 years to go from £1.50 to £50.00 and now 2 years to go from £50.00- £120.00.

03: Its a break from the usual collecting I have been doing over the years. Instead of spending time hunting on a computer screen, I had the excitement of jumping in the car and visiting multiple shops in the search for a figure. You talk about nostalgia, but I felt it was nostalgic to go collect modern like I did 20 years ago, when I couldn't even drive. Though this nostalgia is not really comparable.

04: None of the vintage bullshit. Theres no scamming in Tescos. There are flippers, but all the weapons are 100% legit, no replicator boxes, no recards. No falling out with fellow collectors because of ......

05: Don't have to worry about value, cracks in bubbles, sticker damage, issues with postage.

06: The prices are to high, but then again I feel fortunate to live in world where we are getting a sequel to ROTJ and we all spend money on Pizza express, 2 pints these days are equivalent to a Kylo Ren figure and I cant even remember what day I had those pints. I am now looking at my Kylo Ren figure. Looks cool, hope he's good in the film.

07: Adds to the thrill of Episode VII. The best part of Episode 1 was the lead up to it. Over the last 3 years we have had a build up to Episode VII. As we lead up to the films release, this is so exciting and moments should be lived and experienced as they wont happen again. There is nothing like a new film for a new era.

08: Take your Star Wars vintage collector hat off. Buying this stuff is a completely different mindset. Theres no depth to it. Your not invested with time and enormous amounts of money. You havn't been searching and networking to find this piece. You don't have to complete the range, you don't even have to buy the toys. Theres tons of stuff. I find its just FUN. That's all it is. Just a bit of FUN. A little attachment to a film every Star Wars fan hopes will deliver as other films have disappointed a generation. Vintage Star Wars collecting is full of passion, identity, friendship, investment etc. Buying a toy from Tescos could not compare in anyway. Its not the same thing by a million miles. This is just another way of celebrating....STAR WARS. (I wouldn't take it seriously)

09: Forget POTF2. Many of us are still damaged by this by the sounds of it. Perhaps this time don't buy everything like madmen.

10: I'm not going into this blindly. But I think dogma has made me miss out on some great Star Wars over the years such as some of the statues that have been released. Perhaps a not so serious enjoyment of the hobby will allow me to enjoy the hobby more.

11: If the film sucks, For Sale: Kylo Ren First Issue Black Series Loose and Complete: £100. Will trade for vintage.

An excellent post mate.
I am just as excited as you about the new film, I'm just not into the toys yet that's all.
I'm delighted for you how giddy this makes you feel.
I'm sure it'll hit me soon. For now I'm just happy with the new films.

I haven't bought anything, and I don't see myself buying anything. I'm purely a vintage MOC collector. I don't even feel any desire to own any vintage MISB. Nothing against TFA stuff, that's just what I like. I remember that feeling I felt walking into my first toy fair in the mid nineties and seeing MOCs for the first time in about 10 years. Yes tiefighterboy the vintage stuff has become silly money now due to a lot of new collectors with money pushing the prices up. I have a small collection that contains a few of the rarer items, and with good AFA grades, that there aren't many of according to their population reports. So MOC & rare for me. Good luck to those who want to collect the modern stuff.
