Is your Mrs cool with your Collecting Habits?

My wife is totally down with my hobby and encouraged me to build a man cave at home as somewhere to retreat and relax. She actually spends as much time there as I do!

It's all about balance, if you're spending too much time and money on it then I totally understand why she'd give you ****. After all, we married these people cos we wanted to spend our time with them right? :?

Oh... I thought it was for their Father's money...

The wife is fine with my collecting but I keep it out of display at home because she is baffled why I have such a love of Star Wars. But she would never try to stop me collecting once I am within reason and not spending crazy money and alot of time at it. If your starting to get **** over your collecting of Star Wars I would take a step back before any more arguments and try to see it from her view. As said earlier only you know yourself how much time and money you spend at it. If you are spending a lot money maybe she is worried about that and just looking out for you. Or if you spend a lot of time at it maybe she feels unimportant to you and feels like she competing against old toys in her eyes for your attention.
My own view on collecting is if it was starting to cause problems for me at home. Then I would be starting to think maybe I am starting to develop an unhealthy obsession with it but just don't realize i am. I would take the foot of the pedal a bit and take a step back to see what I am spending and how much time I am committing to it. There are times I felt I spent too much on items that I really wanted. I have now accepted things have gotten out of my price range and I am content in myself that I'll probably never own them now.

Lots of thought provoking posts forcing me to take a look in the mirror. I have only restarted collecting since January after a 13 year break and I have been 100 MPH since that point. She supported me at first but I think she has become frustrated with time I dedicate to it, she is also amazed at the cost of it. I would have to say my collecting habits are probably quite unhealthy and my collection is currently more of a obsession. I hope it will slow down soon as I will get offered less, it has been an intense 5 months, I have bought two large collections plus numerous other pieces so my spending has been quite intense. After reading some of the posts I think it is fair to say the **** I have been receiving is justified!

My stepson is into a lot of the same things I am so she's cool with it if he and i spend time together. Recently we've started painting citadel miniatures, and old hobby of mine. As far as meeting up with star wars mates goes she's cool with that.

It will all work out fine for you, give her a bit more time and you'll soon see changes. It sounds like you really have built up a good collection from when you've started again. Maybe someday you will show us some of it. I think the key is finding the balance with the other half. Once you have that then she's happy and everything runs smoother for you. It seems to work for me anyway. About 5 months ago I started a new sport/hobby. Its costing me a quite bit to get set up but I really enjoy it. I plan to push it as far as I can take it because I am competitive by nature. I know it will involve more spending over time. But again she's cool with it as long as I don't go to mad to quick into it.
It is an interesting thread you started it's good reading how others get on with their collecting at home.
There really is something special about collecting Star Wars.
