Is this worth anything?

Hi everyone

My husband's grandfather used to make movie props in the 70's and 80's for film companies to use at movie premieres. He made this R2D2 for a South African premiere of Star Wars (not sure which movie as he has passed away several years ago). Since then it has been stored in a garage. The dome/head of R2D2 has been damaged and I think there's even space for a cassette tape that used to play the sound effects.
Would this have any value?

Wow! That's really interesting and it looks like a good quality prop.

I'm sure there would be some interest in this although I would have no idea on value.

If you have any provenance on this it would also help.

What's the writing on the paperwork on the dome say?

Put a few more pictures up of the inside and underneath / other side etc

As said is there any history on this, provenance of where it came from etc? Any labels anywhere on it?

Thanks for the replies - there's no labels or paperwork so really not sure of even where to start for a value.

It's the sort of thing that will be impossible to price because it really is unique so if you were going to sell it I would expect abs auction would be the way to go.

Provenance will mean everything though so if you don't have any paperwork for the actual item do you have anything from your husbands granddad like business cards, letters invoicing his work etc?

It's the story that sells - So if you can photos from the premier or things like that, it will also really help.
