Is it worth having a new section for TFA ect?

Just thinking that as there are now a few threads starting up about The Force awakens that maybe it's time for a new section.

I know this forum has been established for awhile now but I'm not sure if it was around when the prequels were released but with the new film on it's way this year as well as Rebels season two and all the spin offs it might be neater to put all postings linked to the new product in one place. I can imagine that some people maybe annoyed to see threads about the latest goings on in the modern Star Wars universe in the Vintage section but I do struggle to think where to post things like this and find the other topics section should really be more about non Star Wars subjects.

This is foremost a Vintage forum in my eyes but it is interesting to talk a bit about what's coming up so maybe this would be a better way of doing things like the recently added autograph section?

Just a thought but what do all of you think about it?

I'm not sure what Edd's thoughts are on another new section for the movie but just FYI - he has just gone away for a couple of weeks so he won't be able to create one for a bit even if people want one!

If that happens i want a TPM section :D

I do agree theres a lot of talk about TFA and i agree it should be elsewhere. I dont want to hear you lot orgasming over it come Xmas, or maybe even bitching and whining that it was shite.

Yep, I agree with this. I'd like to be able to watch TFA knowing almost nothing about it so there's nothing more annoying than coming across posts with spoilers.

Perhaps we should have a forum wide ban on discussing TFA until say 1st January 2016. That way everyone gets the opportunity to see it before the discussion starts.

If the mods manage to ban discussion of the new star wars movie on a star wars forum then they should try turning their hand at world peace next. :)
Spoilers thread would be awesome though

Why should there be a ban???

I'm certain they'll be as many members on here that want to discuss it that there are those that want to remain spoiler free so I don't think that would work at all. Surely it's peoples prerogative if they want to discuss this or not.

I would have thought one thread in most probably the off topic section would work best, titled THE FORCE AWAKENS where everyone can discuss spoilers and new merchandise to their hearts content. That way people who want to stay spoiler free just don't go into that thread. Much better than asking the mods to check every thread to remove any single comment regarding TFA.

I also don't think banning any discussion about it until it's release is the way to go but can understand the point of spoilers not being welcomed by some. For this reason I'm not sure that one thread titled TFA would really do it.

For myself I'm interested in seeing behind the scenes photos and any merchandising for the film (and any spin offs), but tend to skip anything written about the plot. I'm not sure a new section just for TFA is also the best idea as I feel it needs to be a section that's wider in scope and could be used to discuss any new and future Star Wars projects being the spin off films or animated series.

It really is just a thought I had about making things a bit neater and finding the right place for these types of discussions. If there was a new section it would then be possible to have various threads about the different areas of the new things coming such as toys, films, spoiler/plot leaks, animated series ect.

As I said earlier I'm not sure if a new film was released whilst this forum has been operating, and if it was what happened with regards to discussions about the prequels?
For good or bad there is a whole new Star Wars universe upon us and I'm just trying to think of a way to discus it without getting in the way of all the vintage goodness we all love so much. I know there are plenty of other Star Wars forums out there that discuss a great many areas of all things Star Wars and beyond but I do like the simplicity of the amount of threads on this forum but also feel there's still room for a little more when something as big as the up and coming events come along. It's not really something to ignore just because it's not vintage as there are already areas on here that discuss others areas of interest and I think it makes this forum even better than not having them.

See a thread with THE FORCE AWAKENS in the title... and you choose to click on it or you don't.

No need for rules, just that precious thing we all have called 'choice'. :D

Perhaps the word ban was the worst one I could have used. I didn't mean suddenly a new rs type site wide rule. I was thinking more of an amnesty, starting on December 18th and then running till a given date, maybe Christmas Day or maybe New Year's Day to give everybody a chance to watch the film before the site goes wild with references.

Not excluding chatter about figures and posters at Disney expos, nor all that other stuff. Just directly discussing plots and movie content or even making references to the actual story that may potentially ruin the experience for another person if they can't get to see the film on opening day.

I also think putting this stuff in a separate forum might be a good idea. Alternatively, don't visit the forum or Facebook from about the 11th until after you have seen it.

I don't think this stuff will be contained to its own thread. Problem is it only takes one person making a clever reference in a different thread to give away a plot twist or something.

Perhaps a solution is to ask people not to post TFA references in any thread unless it has TFA in the title, just for a week or so. That way you do have a choice. If it's there and you don't know about it what choice do you have?

Perhaps I should give an example. We have a LA thread and a Latest modern acquisitions thread. People still occasionally post modern acquisitions in the LA thread.

That's sort of where I was coming from on this.

I'm trying to avoid as much exposure as I can so when I see the film its as much a surprise as possible.
I haven't watched the trailer and tried to avoid any images too although it's getting pretty difficult.
So my point was any references to the film (plot, characters etc) even this early on could be seen as spoilers and I'd rather not know.

I would vote for a new section to help alleviate the often mis-placed posts/threads. In my mind they should all be somewhere in Off Topic, but more often than not they end up in Vintage Collecting Chat.

If a new Section called Film (or Movie) & TV chat could be created, then within that, you could hold a host of threads that currently are in a variety of folders. Titles such as:
- Original Trilogy Chat (or even at individual film level)
- Prequels (?)
- TFA Chat
- Rogue One Chat
- Other SW related TV and Film Chat
- General Film chat (Could be moved from the existing Off Topic Folder)
- TV Chat (this could be moved from the Off Topic folder)

I don't underestimate the massive amount of work to set-up a new section and associated folders to hold the threads, let alone sweep up all the existing ones and pop them all in order, but it would clean up some of the other folders and threads very neatly, I can't help but feel the next few years will see the forum grow and the amount of film chatter grow with it.

I guess though how the forum wants to move in a more global manner would be affected by this decision too, it stands in my mind at the moment as a Vintage SW toys forum with a few general interest, within a theme (in the main), bits around the edges. Setting up a dedicated film & TV chat section with a variety of sub folders does add an extra dimension to who the forum will potentially attract which could take some focus away from the toys...

I think a new section for all the new films & everything connected to them would be a good idea. If the films are good I'll go there, if they're rubbish I can just ignore it :D
