Hi guys, just after some advice;
I'm looking at buying my Son's Christmas present.
His friends all have iPod Touches and he has asked for one.
Whilst I was looking around earlier today I realised that for the same price I could get him a tablet.
Now you may think "Hang on a second Jez, he's 7 ffs" but even 7 year olds get homework requiring Internet access etc!

The requirements for him; music and games.
The requirements for me; satisfying the above requirements, staying as future proof as possible, bigger is better ( with regards to screen) and kids his age like to access the Internet, if he were to have a tablet it would stop him constantly wanting to use our computer.

The iPod has face time, which could be handy. It is also compatible with our soon to arrive iPad and iPhones. I'm only thinking about the others because of their 7 inch screens.

I'd appreciate your thoughts

I'm in the same position pretty much and for me it is tablet all the way, especially if you want to keep him off your ipad! The bigger screen is definitely the winner and it is not as easy to loose.

Just bought my Mrs the samsung. Check out the deal on the Samsung site, you buy it st any participating store and Samsung send you £50 back off the purchase price.

Thanks guys.
That's amazing Grant, can I get 2 as he does have a twin sister?

an then you can treat yourself to a Yak Face MOC.- The perfect Christmas.......

......I so lonely

if its the 7" line you are going for the google nexus is the best, it beats the ipad mini for spec too, i think its around £120 for the 8gb version.

plus google play store is awesome and i think you still get £15 credit to spend too

Tough call Jez...

Personally I would give Apple a miss, but that's what all his friends have got and that's what's important to a 7 year old unfortunately.

I think they are great bits of kit but can't stand the aggro of plugging them into my machine and moving things back and forth.

We had a similar dilemma last year and went for the Blackberry Playbook, I think it now supports Android Apps, it allows drag and drop to your PC and its well priced.

Good luck with your decision, with all the options out there and constant updating of hardware and software you are bound to get it wrong or be out of date within 6 months

I have been using Apples since the early 90s when most people wouldn't touch them. At the time they were the only machines designed for design and were the industry standard. As time has gone on I have got more & more pissed off with the attitude of the company and the constant need to update.

Thanks for all of your input guys. I think the best thing is to take him with me to PC World and let him see for himself.
Thanks again
