Ipad, alternative?

Whats the best ipad alternative guy's. A friend want's to buy a pad for christmas for her son, but cant justify the price of an ipad.
Any advice?

I would recommend getting a second hand iPad. If her son wants an iPad, anything else will only be a disappointment. You can pick up used ones for around the same as a new Android tablet.

Imagine the same scenario with toys. You're a 10 year old and you want star wars figures for christmas. They're quite expensive so instead your mum gets you knock-off GI Joe type figures. They're technically superior, have jointed arms etc, but they're not what you wanted and they're not what any of your friends have.

That's why kids want an iPad.

Great analogy, Edd- if the kid wants an iPad, then it's got be an iPad. Apple kit is expensive, but I've always found it's money well spent- you get what you pay for.

depends what the kids want it for, and ipad is a fashion statement, if he just wants to play free games there is no point, all our guys at work want an iphone, when i ask what for they say to play music.....i roll my eyes and get them a HTC lol

kindle fire Hd, the kids love it and the Mrs does loads of work related stuff with it

Must admit the missus has a kindle fire HD and initially i thought these things were just girly book readers. She's done some jailbreaky thing on it tho and it runs every program imaginable better than my lads tablet. Just bought the daughter 1 for her upcoming birthday.
