Has anybody sent a direct bank transfer to a seller in Europe before? Can it be done without paying the bank a fee? Halifax want £13 for doing it

I had one of those in Europe last year for an item I won for 6 euros. The fee was going to cost 4 times that. The seller was really arsey about it and said he only accepted bank transfers and that it said that on the listing (I hadn't checked). I said I could send him a 10 euro note which I did to a completly different name/address to that on the paypal invoice. I was just glad to get off the hook on the charges. Of course the item never arrived and the seller had said I could send cash money at my own risk. When I queried the seller 3 months later I got a very apolegetic email saying the guy had had his ebay account hacked by his little brother who had been listing stuff with bank transfer payments only so no paper mail would turn up at the house they shared. I got the figure in the end and I presume little brother got a beating.

The End.

I have sent a bank transfer to a german seller a few months back but there was no charge with hsbc

I've never sent one but I did ask one time about it. I think its free if the banks are connected in someway - I mean that as in the bank has branches world wide.

I sent money from Lloyds TSB to a dutch bank and that cost me about £7

Thanks for the replies. I managed to get the seller to accept Paypal but covered their fees. They like these bank transfers in Germany but it seems a lot more hassle to send them from the UK.
