I had a terrible dream about losing my collection in a fire....and with the rate of burgalries going up i was wondering if any of you have insured your collection?

I havnt contacted my home insurance to ask but i wondered if it would be covered under house contents, i mean determining the value of lili ledy stuff ect would very difficult, or do you insure it seperately?

I have thought about insuring items. There was a post on Rebelscum not long ago and people were talking about this same subject.
There are companies out there who specialize in insuring collectibles.

Cheers,

Grant.

as long as no one item is more than £2k you should be covered under most contents insurance.

It's probaby worth a call to your insurer to check

I know that Tesco home insurance will allow for a collection to be insured up to a certain value (£12k ish). I recall there is a maximum value per item and that you declare the entire value, but it works out pretty reasonable.

Oh man the whole insurance topic is a minefield.
Its one of those ask 5 people how their collection is insured and you will get 5 different answers,
type of situations.
Im with Halifax and they say im covered with my normal household insurance as long as i have an up to date valuation and list of items.
Like what was said already, prime pieces over the value of £1k (in Halifaxs case) must be named.
Im still not 100% convinced that im 100% covered.

Ask Edd about his recent ordeal.

I would obviously be devastated if i lost my collection but not to be covered would be a bugger....i think im going to ring my insurance company and check.

I dont have an individual figure value over 1k but a lot of expensive ones, i suppose i could downsize and get a nice fireproof safe :).

off topic but i do get agitated if my collection wanders off or i end up with tons of stuff i have purchased off the cuff, i may limit my focus to one figure at a time i think.

problem solved

Big dogs like the taste of 30 year old plastic and cardboard. Whats worse somebody nicking it or the dog eating it?

dog eating it ,least you know some slime balls hasnt been in your house and ****ed with your private stuff

I was covered under the house insurance, but only for the value I paid, not what I considered them to be worth. Annoying in my case as I always considered myself a good bargain hunter - book value was a lot more than I actually got back. Can't complain though to be honest.

My advice:

1) Keep receipts if possible (Paypal receipt PDFs were invaluable in my case)
2) Take photos with your house in the background to prove you actually own them. The individual photos on my website would have been useless, the few group shots I had turned out to be priceless.
