Some chappie from France wins my auction for a Tri-Logo Lumat(£50). This is on the 26th September. I have specified standard international postage so I send it non tracked. I get a receipt.

Today he messages me to say he hasnt received the item. He has quite a large feedback score at 100% so I have very little reason to doubt him.

I go to the post office and they hand me a form regarding lost or damaged international postage. The process, it says, can take up to 90 days

So my question is guys, what do I do? Refund him now? Wait? Refund him when I have claimed?

I really dont know why I ****ing bother, I really dont :(

To be honest mate you might as well get the pain out of the way - untracked, eBay will always find in the buyers favour - in this case, work with the guy, give him the refund and hope that a) he doesn't neg you and b) if the package turns up then he pays you back

He should at least give you two weeks from postage date - I have had various buyers from abroad ask where their item is within the week and then it arrive pretty much next day so all is not lost. Just keep the lines of communication open and ask him to hold on til at least the end of the week.

It's also very difficult to get any kind of refund from the post office. I have a few packages a month go missing but i've never bothered filing a claim. My brother tried once and they asked him to prove how much he bought the item for which is, of course, not always doable, practical or relevant.
Anything over £30-40 i send tracked. Anything below, if it goes missing, i just suck it up and move on.

Did you post it on the Friday? It still may arrive today or tomorrow. Fingers crossed for you.
Selling everything at FF4 has to be the way forward for you J.

Lightbulb: Take a pasting table to the Prince Charles Theatre in London on Saturday night, they're showing ROTJ on the big screen. I bet if someone rocked up with a load of stuff to sell they'd do well. Free enterprise :D

****ing hell Jamie, tell the guy to be bloody patient, its only been 6 days for ****s sake.

If you want to put a claim in with Royal Mail they will make you wait 15 days anyway so I would at least leave it that long before refunding.

6 Days??! Yeah, he needs to ****ing wait. Tell the idiot it takes between 7 and 14 days minimum for international packages to arrive. If you were taking it there yourself you could probably do it quicker but as you chose to use the postal services you'll just have to wait until they get it there.

he needs to wait at least two full working weeks , i bought a few figs from germany recently and they took 2 weeks to get to me in northern ireland !

My thought's exactly.

He will have to wait in my books - why are some people so impatient!

The Postal system is all over the place - I've had items arrive from Spain and Canada within a week and stuff from the UK sent 1st Class Recorded take 5 working days to get to me.

Hi mate sorry to read about all this.

Maybe next time you should write in the auction, if buyer want the item mailed without track and trace or signed for then it is on the buyers own risk and you will and cannot refund if it get lost in the mail.

I always do this when I sell and 90% then want it mailed with track and trace or signed for.

I hope he get the moc so the case get solved, good luck mate

Don't think that'll work Ebay/PP will just find in the buyers favour anyway.

I feel for you mate, but really if you are going to send ANYTHING internationally, or even domestically if it's worth more than 20-30 GET IT ****ING TRACKED AND INSURED.

It's you, as the seller, who runs the risk NOT the buyer.

PS 6 days is very quick to be complaining, i've parcels from the States take 3 days and others take a month.

...but WHY is there a risk? Why in the 21st century with postal charges rocketing and posties going on strike and winging about the brill job they do, do things STILL get lost in the post? I put a return address on it. I got a receipt. Where is this big black hole where these parcels end up in????!

Pisses me off

Ahhh, classic noob mistake. You're using "logic" and "common sense" these are big no no's to Ebay and PP!
They just look for the easiest way out that means they get to keep their (unfair) share of the money, and they don't give a **** about what's right or wrong!

Does sound like he's jumping the gun somewhat, i bought something from Germany last week and that's not here. And if it makes you feel any better I'm supposed to have something coming from the states, posted three weeks ago by a member on this forum who has since dissapeared off the earth, I really have no idea whether I will see my item or not.

I dont know what it is but people from France are very Dodgy with postage as i have experienced in the past.

So much so, that i refuse to post to France anymore. I lost 3 item's in one month to the same person and well over 8 in one year.

This is what it think, i think they get the items when they message you and ask you for the tracking number. If you say no its not tracked they always say i have'nt recieved the item and put in a claim.

This happened to me a few times with BMX Items, so the next time i was asked i just lied and said yes the item was tracked. 24 hrs later they left feedback.

Is it the People of France or the Postage system i dont know but it seems to me that if you dont send tracked or traced to France then you are fair game and they put in a claim and take you to the cleaners

Its seems to be no Coincidence to me that whatever forum you go on i always see people having problems with Postage to France

Not Good :!: :!: :x

Here is the ebay member and the items plus the Negative Feedback he left for me

As i said there was loads more before this and ive now stopped posting to France. It was NO!!!! COINCIDENCE TO ME that all the items posted to France seemed to be going missing and they always asked you for tracking first.

All i can say is no matter how much the item costs dont send it to France without tracking, or you will get burnt!! :x

I'm waiting on 2 different items from 2 different sellers (both from Italy)

Both sellers have provided tracking no's. Italy tracking is **** though!

One item posted on 26.09.13, took until 30.09.13 just to leave Italy! and I still haven't rec'd it.
The other posted on 28.09.13, left Italy on 01.10.13 still not rec'd.

Yet a German and American parcel have both turned up and they were posted at the same time.
