I know this is like beating a dead horse, but f*cking f*k do I f*cking hate f*cking Epson. Never buy an Epson printer.
If I can dissuade one person from buying one my life won't have been wasted.

Does anyone have a brand they can actually recommend?

How about a nice Epson?

lol ive had an epson xp-312 for ages never had issues, you get what you pay for generally, if you buy an Oki or Canon, HP ect they will be far better, but to be honest i buy epson for home use.

I used to have an Epson (inkjet) and it was crap. The print head was in the printer rather than the cartridge, so once they blocked it wasn't worth cleaning them - it would've cost as much to but a new printer as it would to have the heads unblocked.

I've got an HP now and whilst the cartridges aren't cheap (because the head is part of the cartridge) I've had it for about 10 years without any problems.

I also don't use remanufactured cartridges as they are, almost without fail, crap.

The quality is fine, its the ink usage. I bought one of the new ones which is more expensive in the first place but the ink is supposed to be cheaper so you save in the long run. What they don't tell you is that it uses twice as much ink, so not only do you get to spend exactly the same on the ink, but you have to change the cartridges twice as often.

The best bit that's got me raging though is that if any of the colour cartridges run out, it won't even let you print in black and white. It actually uses (read: wastes) colour ink when you print black. Espon support says because it's a vacuum sealed nosel or something, to use it with an empty cartridge would damage it. Wankers.

What's more it won't even let you use the scanner until you replace the cartridge!

My week wouldn't be complete without a rage-fuelled trip to PC World...

I have an ancient HP I got off the car bootie for (wait for it) 50p its old but bloody hell is it good for what it is, its an 845c deskjet, had to hoover a tonne of cat hair out of it when I got it, hence the price tag, bought as I got one of those all in one things brand new, lasted one page & gave up the ghost, this old HP has worked without fault for over 5 years now, talk about bargain.

Its also best to buy unbranded cartridges as they are usually the same quality & actually fill them opposed to the real deal ones which are normally only half full & over twice the price, thieving cunts.

Thanks for the recommendations. I think I'll try a Cannon. Then in 12 months time I'll throw that out the window and start this thread again :D

if you get your cartridges off cartridge monkey they have some great deals and you can get around 15% cashback too.

you will probably find it cheaper to replace the printer every time you run out of ink lol, most of the time it works out cheaper to get a deal on a new printer with a full set of inks, then sell the old one or give it to charity.

After years of buying crap printers (eps on, hp, Lexmark etc)
I opted for a laser mono printer/scanner (Samsung)
The cartridges cost a lot but the actual price of printing is so
Much cheaper overall and it's really fast and quiet.
