2 weeks ago. Just like that. Done my time, put in 25 years of high tar cigs, damn good effort if you ask me!

My health has been shocking, I realise now, deteriorating over the last 6 months / year... was having bad respiratory problems. Seems I had an easy choice - smoke or breathe. Even my peanut brain can work that one out!

Am in the process of winding up my painting and decorating business, definitely contributing to my poor health... and doing... something else. My ladywife has just got a very decent job, so she can wear the bacon-bringing-home trousers, also my daughter about to start school, so better get myself a nice apron and practice nagging!

Suggesting to a smoker to quit falls on deaf ears (did with me), had a very worrying wake-up call, so just focusing on getting better. The money I'm saving is unreal, but mostly, the improvement to my heath has been immediate and somewhat startling. Dawned on me I'm not 22.. was feeling 82, looking forward to just being 42. 8)

So, if you want, stop smoking (think of the toys you could buy!.. I mean your family :? ), you'll live longer.
I bloody well intend to! :D

good job man. did you go cold turkey? its the best way!

i hope for you it continues

congratulations so far 8)

Thank you Sir. Indeed, cold turkey.

Always used to love smoking but have found it surprisingly easy to quit. My mood is better, I rarely miss it.
Only been 2 weeks but feeling much improved. A friend who stopped said after a year it'll be like you never did. I surely hope so!

I used to smoke. I don't anymore. I stopped. All there is to it. Use the Force!

i am not a smoker but after discussing quitting smoking with friends over the years

the one bit of advice i can pass on is not too think about it, a friend tried many methods

e-cigs! your reminded of smoking, patches your reminded of smoking, chewing gum - your reminded of smoking. inthe end he didnt use anything and he wasnt reminded of of him giving it up and hes been clean aver since

WELL DONE!

I packed them up in december and i havent smoked since, i was only on 5-10 roll ups a day, managed to cut them out at work which was a big step to quiting. plus a trip to barcelona a few days before xmas was a really good test for me.

I had been smoking for 15 years but it was really the last 2 years that kicked me up the arse to quit, a few health issues came about, plus my body started reacting badly to caffiene and nicotine which was affecting my life state big time! to the extent that i was unable to go places or do things, major head ****!

so decided to quit fags and caffiene and i must say its been truely amazing, i feel a different person for it and its only been since december, you wont notice much change to begin with but give it time and you'll notice it.

I smoke but not heavily. Maybe a couple of roll ups a day. Never really wanted to quit but can say the times I've come close are always when I've had a bad cold. The cold makes me not want to smoke and in those times I don't crave them. So I guess that's my top tip - contract influenza. You'll feel so ill you'll give up smoking just like that!

Cheers chaps.

Same as yourself pizzathehutt, am in the process of cutting out coffee too, but one thing at a time! :)

Good arrows for stopping, it's really encouraging to hear of how others have stopped and the improvement to one's health and well-being. Bollocks to patches and the like, luckily, we already have a replacement addiction in SW toys!

Aye weasel, I'm starting to hate them too. Together with alcohol, the worst drugs they can tax us for!

x-pack, indeed, was on verge of pneumonia in January, started cutting down then. Always used to enjoy smoking - a gentlemanly pleasure pursuit - but now I'm enjoying not smoking far more! 8)

Congratulations Dude. Keep up the good work. I quit smoking tobacco back in August 2008. Never looked back. Similar to you I was struggling to breath. I'd been smoking for 14 years at that time. Thinking about stuff like Emphysema helped me quit.

me too,i gave up smoking 5 years ago,wow it was hard but got to say it is the best thing ever
food taste awesome now and my sense of smell is great,oh and my health as well
i used to smoke 20 a day,worked it out that i had saved 13 grand in 5 years :o

EDIT
forgot to say, well done Q :D

Congratulations mate, especially cold turkey.

I smoked for over 30 years, ( old Holborn dark, roll ups for 25 of those :!: )

I had 3 attempts, finally using an E cig.

2 and a half years off fags now....wouldn't have one now.

Health benefits are great....

So well done buddy its a massive achievement :D

Q you've never been smoking

Depends what you've been growing.

After smoking 20 Craven A for 25 years and... let's just say I ain't smoking nothing no more, no Sir!

Awesome to hear so many of yous have packed in, and with great success. Is a bit odd after smoking my whole adult life to be free of it. The cravings I find are less than just breaking the habit, but as you say Michael Sith, I wouldn't have one now, find the idea kinda gross.

Many kind thanks for the support and kinship, cheers gentlemen!

Good work! A massive achievement and in only a few weeks you'll feel loads better, in a few months better again and in a year.... wow, you won't recognise your tastebuds, sense of smell and general health!

I gave up myself about 5 years ago. 20 a day roll-up habit. Having lost a lot of weight by stopping eating rubbish and then joined gym and tried to get fit... smoking was the last thing to give up in order to get clean. It was also the hardest to be motivated to do, because I enjoyed it!

Then one day at a work dinner, totally out of the blue, I had the last one and I've never looked back

True reformed smoker now as I can't stand them or the smell; although I do still love the smell of a fresh pack of rolling tobacco, never tempted to roll it though!

Yes it's weird, but you quickly get to a point when you walk past someone who has just put out a ciggie, it smells like they are wearing Eau De Ashtray!
Did my clothes smell like that!

Having said that I enjoyed them for years so I would never be holier than thou with a smoker, when you give up you are always an Ex Smoker rather than a non smoker.

The health benefits are awesome, I felt the effects within days, I used to sound like a coffee percolator when asleep, now my lungs are clear as a bell, taste buds are back, best decision ever made.

Well done again mate massive achievement!

YES! Yes, they did.
As someone who has always been a hater of smoking it really used to piss me off when I went out for a night and came home stinking of cigarette smoke.

Congratulations buddy, I did the same last year after almost 30 years of smoking. I was on 30 a day and thought I would give the Electronic cig a go, best thing I ever did. Now I don't miss real cigs at all, and more importantly my health is improving and I am £500 a month better off.
Kicking myself for not doing it sooner.

The worst thing about getting your taste buds back is some food I used to enjoy from a local Chinese takeaway place tastes like utter crap now. I think all that tar used to disguise the horrible taste of chip fat. Probably a good thing actually not eating them now either along with not smoking, but I still miss me some of those curried chips. 8) congrats again to everyone who kicked that smokey habit. And like Weaz said we all used to stink like fu*k lol.

LOL.....agree with you there weaz , back when pubs n clubs used to allow smoking I would come home smelling like a stale ash-tray the smell on my clothes was vile, couldn't wait to change out of them and bung them in the wash asap.

Tried smoking once when I was 15 hated it and never touched them again.

Well done Q!!
