How were Original Cardbacks made?

Hi, was wondering how the originals were made. The proofs that we see, are they printed just on one side and on what, card or thin paper then stuck on card. If they're printed on card is the back then printed on the otherside? Can anyone help as I'm trying to make as close as poss a custom card (don't worry I'm not faking anything it's for a Scouty on a Star Wars cardback :wink: , one that doesn't exist).

Much appreciated if any help can be offered.

I've seen on web that people use gloss sticky labels then stick onto card but can't seem to get hold of these 'gloss' stick labels anywhere.
