As i was at work the other day, it was quiet so i went onto the internet. As i work for the NHS, pretty much all social sites are blocked. This site has been ok, but to my shock, i couldnt get on here and a message popped up "Nhs blocked due to being a forum/chat room.

How bloody rude.

  places of work are getting more and more cunning with checking what you look at on the Internet. I used to listen to radio 1 online, went to work one day and my work had blocked it, it's only flipping music, listen while you work and all that. So far this forum has gone under the radar. Prob be blocked tomorrow now!!

A lot of the filtering will not be done by any one checking or changing settings, site categorisations are down loaded by the filters, and unless your IT staff don't have any other work to do, they probably won't be checking what you're up to.

We have one site with seriously limited bandwidth (4mb supporting about 120 users) so have to protect that as best we can, quick check of the high bandwidth users and what time of day it's at so see if someone needs a talking to.

The blocking of email is generally try to prevent data leakage (as well as making sure people do some work) we've had instances of people sending data out through personal web mail, hence it's now blocked, as well as logging what is done with USB devices, and archiving all internal mail.

Again, never have the time to look at what's going on (not that you can legally look through anyone elses mail) but does proove useful for prooving when someone's using the company for criminal activity.

There's also the issue of whether your company has a PRS license if you're listening to music (and who else can hear it)

It's a bloody mine field, i tell thee!!

Great post, Mrleemur

I work for the NHS too (Supply Chain side of things), Tim- same thing there so I just use my iPhone to keep up to date and generally have a good nosey about on the forum (I don't like to miss out)

You clearly have a very progressive-thinking employer Todd.

I last worked for the NHS 7 years ago and it was a pain in the arse then for what you could look at. Surprised you've been able to visit here for this long Tim :)
