How rare is a vinyl Cape jawa ?

Hi guys ,

I have been looking for a VCJ for a while now . There does seem to be quiet a few out there , however with very high prices.

Really how rare are they ?
How many on the swuk have them ?
What's the difference between a palitoy and Kenner , can you tell the difference?

The figure has developed something of an almost mythical status, it's rare but not that rare. The fact is that supply outweighs demand, seems most collectors of loose figures want one, but aren't so bothered about other figures which are much rarer.

Like the Yak Face, you'll see dozens on ebay at any one time, but try and find a decent pop up R2, for me that's rarer than any Yak.

I have one, had 2 at one point, the better of the 2 was found in a small lot of loose figures on ebay about 18 months ago. I got the lot for £200. It was a gamble as the pics weren't great. They are still possible to get at a reasonable cost.

A nice figure to have.

Hey Sublevel, I think you got that the wrong way round dude? Don't you mean demand outweighs supply!? (hence the high prices). I agree though, not that rare, must be thousands of them out there. I don't have one but like most vintage collectors I would quite like one. Trouble is I can't bring myself to pay 500+ quids for one, it's too much.

I have one and I know another is coming up at vectis but it's in a bulk lot.
£500 will get yow a vcj anyday. £350 is possible with a bit of patience.

They are rarer than any other production figure save the three Dt figures, looking at all of the production figures as a whole in a simplified way. They are not nearly as rare as some foreign figure variants, although they command a higher price due to their status.

They are not scarce, just a lot less available than most other figures. If you ask around the forum, there are dozens that people own. I have currently got one, although have owned 2 in the past. They are regularly for sale, but mostly at stupid money.

Patience is the key with this figure.

Rare is not a word for them. Harder to find than their cloth caped counterpart. Star Wars Dip Dots are rarer.

It's the one figure that i won't be trying to pick up, although I used to say that about pop-up R2 :? No, back in '93 I picked one up for about £50. I'm not sure if that was a lot back then. But anyway, it went missing out of my collection about 15 years ago. I won't be paying top dollar again for one. It amazes me how much they are now compared to other similarly 'rare' figures such as the R2 or Yak.

Small head Han vs Vinyl Cape Jawa.

Were the small head Han and vinyl cape Jawa both pulled from production at the same time? (I don't know enough about the different cardback types, or the shipping case make up to be able to answer this).

Obviously the VCJ has a removeable and easily ripped cape so a high percentage of them subsequently became naked Jawas, which must have dramatically reduced the numbers but originally do you think the population numbers of the VCJ and Small Head Han were about even?

I'd say the small head han would be much more common than the vinyl Jawa. Overstock could be found on ESB cards afterall.

Jawa was released at the end of the 12bk line (with DSC and Sandpeople) so probably wasn't around for a huge amount of time. Saying that, they aren't rare by any stretch of the imagination - just expensive. I haven't seen one for £350 for a good while now, but the £1000 asking prices are ridiculous IMO.

£1000 is obscene, but do you think they might reach that sort of price in future given the way some MOC's have gone recently?

It always makes me laugh when you show someone a VCJ and ask them what they think it's worth - and then you tell them.

The repro market probably affects anything that commonly has repro add-ons, capes, weapons, stickers etc. Probably why Jawa and R2 have gone silly. it's almost as though you are paying for piece of mind.

I also think the VCJ relys on its cult/ urban legend status ...before eBay and the like you would never come across him. I think the VCJ was in production for approx 6 months before kenner changed it to a cloth version. So its fair to say it must have produced a lot less than say a YAK IMPO.

I suppose the VC Jawa falls under the same category as Boba Fett - Desirable! Although the VC Jawa can be a tough piece to find depending on what condition you're happy to settle with. I personally wouldn't consider it a "holy grail" of rare items - I mean, there must be over half a dozen on eBay right now for sale...

Some great thoughts , it was only produced for 6 months , probably slow production at the start , so it must be the rarest of production figures , excluding variants

My own personal view , it is a holy grail piece for loose and moc collectors alike , I did have a graded one before and sold it last year , to be honest it's very over stated . Certainly not my favourite figure

End of line figure produced when sw lost its steam...not available in USA. Think they were waiting for it to be a promotional piece

Wasn't readily available in lofts pre-internet days.

Yeah, over here Yak is no rarer than any of the other Last 17 figures. I've seen more Yaks over the years than Rombas, for example.

As for the VCJ- pretty rare IMHO. I think one of my friends had one when I was a kid- have a vague memory of it and we all thought it was crap compared to the regular Jawa. Have only seen 2 in the flesh since the early 90's. The internet has certainly made them easier to get hold of + even more desirable. As others have said, it's the rarest production figure (apart from some of the variants).

Finally got a nice one a couple of months ago- was a piece I never thought I'd get- mainly down to price. Managed to talk the guy down from £550 to £350 So, well priced examples are out there, but I suspect it won't be long until that's no longer the case.

Can you see the hatching on the inside with the naked eye , maybe it's my eyes but I can't remember seeing the cross hatch , but defo hear the zippy noise
