I'm sure some people have something similar already, but as they vary so wildly in price I wanted to recommend the one I have just bought:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Clever-Dog-Camera-Monitor-Colour/dp/B019RQNV7Q/

You control it through a phone app, you can watch it live from anywhere as long as you have wi-fi, and it automatically records video if you turn the motion sensor on. It even alerts you if motion is detected, and you can talk to the person at the other end!

Really impressed with it for the price, there are much better ones for more money but for the cost of a loose figure it's really a no brainer.

Here's a couple of test shots of my collection room. The second photo is night mode, this is literally taken in pitch black! Very impressive

Great post ed. I've been humming and ha-ing over a few for ages now but haven't pulled the trigger. I'll go for this one now. Cheers

It has an SD card slot so as well as sending images to you it can also store them locally. It's obviously not fool proof but it's better than nothing. For me the main benefit is being able to check up on it while I'm away on holiday, avoid that dread of walking through the front door for the first time.

I'm getting one, just got back from holiday. I'm the same walk through the front door and just got straight to the MOC wall to check them. Had so many random dreams while I was away of them getting swiped, one dream I had they haven't even been moved but knocked over and broken by the neighbor checking the house!

Glad people are finding it helpful! A few bits of advice having got mine set up (and seeing some negative reviews on Amazon etc):

1) It is USB powered, so you need a USB plug like the ones that come with a smart phone. You can plug it in to your computer but then it will obviously only work when the computer is turned on
2) It does not include a microsd card, you can get an 8GB one for about £3 on ebay
3) You need a mobile phone to set it up (there is a PC app but I can't get it to work)
4) Out of the box you can only watch it over wi-fi, if you want to be able to view it over 3G/4G as well read the comments here: http://www.unifore.net/ip-video-surveillance/introducing-3g-wifi-ip-camera-clever-dog.html
5) The manual is converted from Chinese to English so in places doesn't make sense, but it should be fairly obvious

Edd, you seriously need to set up an 'Edd recommends' page with links to Amazon so you get a cut of the sales!

Oh, and can I be the first to mutter the immortal phrase; "Amazing price"!

Can't beat Amazon Prime

Thanks again Edd
