I've just watched a 20 back Death Star Droid go for £1019 on ebay. I know it's a bit boring going on about the current spike in value at the moment, but this takes the biscuit. It was graded AFA 80, but come on I would expect £300 max.
 
I've just searched sold listings and can't believe some prices. Over £900 for a 12 back Luke graded 75 :shock: The 20 back search was shocking as well, I surrender now, I give up.
 
Think I did well bagging a 20 bk Han afa 85 last week for under £500 then :D

False alarm guys. Two people got carried away and entered daft amounts and both have pulled out. As the 3rd under bidder I've been offered it for what it's actually worth! The Walrus man and Greedo went quite high but I thought the R2 was cheap, even with a crushed bubble.

I picked the fricking wrong time in history to get into collecting Star Wars again then lol.
 
This listing is a bit fishy private bidding...ridiculous final price then offered to a third bidder almost straight away for massive decrease. I will watch the Boba listing with interest.

Yeah sorry, was not sure whether to start this thread thread in ebay listings or not. :)

So how much did the Death Star Droid go for in the end? :?

The DS Droid sold for £300. Quite a climb down from £1k.

That said, I have no suspicions regarding the bidding. I think a couple of folks got hacked off not winning the previous items so bid silly amounts thinking it would end lower but they'd win. Instead two bidders ended up with a potentially expensive purchase. They both declined to pay and the 2nd chance offer then took the price down to a reasonable level. Look at it this way; what seller would shill bid £1,000 on a £300 item he was selling? No bidder is going to agree to pay that!

There's nothing wrong with private bidding, it's just an option when you list. I had a couple of big sales of all my camera gear, and just over a dozen Star Wars figures. I selected the "allow bidders to remain private" thinking it may be something that attracts more bidders. I didn't know it meant all the feedback detail is blank, so no one could check my feedback out afterwards, making it look suspicious. There's really a lot to learn about being a seller on eBay.

I personally think you should be tied to the price you bid. It should be set aside by Paypal. I've had a few largish sales on eBay recently, and on each one, one of my items never got paid for. On my camera sale someone bid £670 on my Canon 5D MKII (a good price for them) but never paid and ignored messages. If someone was expecting some money to pay a bill or something, that would be bloody annoying.
 
I get the explanation given but I think that's extremely dodgy. Not one, but two people going nuts on an auction, and both people pulling out within a few minutes of the auction ending? Really? I find that very hard to believe. Double shilling maybe with a nice story made up.

Seller made sure he got the maximum bid from the 3rd bidder, so in effect, the maximum bid, rather than just over the 4th bidders.
 
I agree, this has happened to me before been outbid then offered item afterwords and just said no thanks. It's an open auction the item will sell for what it's worth at the time. If you wont a certain price that's what BIN is for. Ebay should ban sellers like this. :roll:

I've seen it more times than I care to think about in (one of) my other anorak hobbies; British military medals. A typical World War I pair of medals is worth £35-£45. I've seen them go for up to £300 for no good reason at all and it always takes two bidders to bring it on like that. I do understand your scepticism, though, and I've had arsehole sellers shill bid their own items. Not looked into this one yet, will do so now, but I just don't see it.

And £300 is closer the 4th underbidder (£293) than the 3rd (£325) so I don't see an issue. Unless of course you saying the top 3 bids were bogus :lol:

OK, enough of banging this drum. I'm not defending the seller, just saying what I see. And I'm not in anyway connected to the seller, either, before anyone thinks it.

You suspicious old goats.....

This was my auction and Simon was a gent to deal with as a buyer. The DSD went crazy at the end as the final bidder made an error and immediately filed a cancel request via Ebay. I got talking to Simon on two other figs and decided he was a decent enough bloke to also have a shot at the DSD he wanted.

Still its good to discuss potential dodgy deals but this isn't one.....100% positive and above average for a reason.
