Hello,

My name is Stuart Friel and I have just started to collect Palitoy, mostly AFA due to the value they add to a figure. My long term goal is to get all of the figures on the first Palitoy cards. How long do you think such a goal could take? Who is the best palitoy collector to get advice from?

Hi there, and welcome! Getting all 98 figures on their debut palitoy cards will take you many years and an awful lot of cash. It has taken some collectors several years just to get the first 12/20 figures MOC. Some of the 30a cards for the first wave of ESB figures are extremley rare and very expensive to buy. The 30B's on the second wave of ESB figures are a little less rare. The 45a's on the 3rd wave less rare again, but still difficult to obtain. The ROTJ figures are easier to get on 65A as are the tri logo characters on 70B cardbacks, with the last 17 on 70D being more rare and pricey again. The collector who has come closest to this run is Gary Smith aka sith-smith. You can see all the known figures and card types on my palitoy cardback guide below.

Best of luck in your collecting goal!

Jason

Welcome to the forum :D Have you got any figures as yet?

I originally had a plan of getting a debut set together but ditched the idea due to the cost and the fact that some figures will be very very hard to get, now I'm just trying to get the first 20. Maybe consider breaking the task down into SW, ESB, ROTJ stages. Good luck if you decide to give it a go.

One bit of advice I have is not to turn down ungraded cards if you see them. Most of the Palitoy figures in circulation will not have been graded by AFA. I would not even think too much about the 'end' value of figures as this will distract you from your goal. Some figures don't come up for sale very often so if you see one you often have to just go for it whatever the cost (within reason obviously) or regret it (I've been there).

Welcome to the forum Stuart 8)

There's plenty of Palitoy experts on here who can help you out with any questions you have, just post the question and no doubt one of them will chirp up with the answer.

Hello Jason I have seen you site and its very nice the only thing I noticed though is a lot of that information seems to be the same as that on http://www.palitoy.org/cardback/palitoy.html Was it based on that site?

I have some carded but also a lot of loose figures and backer cards, I have most of the 12 back backers some 20s and 30s including C3P0, Han hoth, Yoda and Lando C.

Stuart

Hi there Stuart, yes you are correct. The palitoy.org site was several years out of date so I did an up to date one. I have 403 palitoy cardbacks in my collection now, been working on that for several years now!

You should speak to Gary, he has loads of multiples, including some very rare ones which have been AFA'd...although He will only sell them if he likes you!

And then, only if you're really nice.
