when i try burning a dvd it says error in dvd engine is this the recorder or programme .it seems to work fine when i use a +rw it when i use -r,s it ****s up

Try completley uninstalling the software and starting again. It wont be a hardware problem because if it burns one type it should be capeable of burning the other. I assume you are using the same discs as before. If you are using different discs this may be the problem.
