Hi

I got a message from Brian Stillman who is apparently the producer of Plastic Galaxy. It's something about some childhood photo I posted on RS. Basically he wants to pass on my details to his client presumably so they can have my permission for them to use my photos. It also says they will pay -

"Hi. I'm writing because you posted some childhood photos on RS. I'm not sure we've met (online or otherwise), but my name's Brian Stillman and I'm the director of the documentary Plastic Galaxy: The Story of Star Wars Toys. I'm also a toy collector and member of the SW collecting community.

I'm currently working with a large, national ad agency called Deutsch, Inc., and they're looking to license items like your photos for use in an advertisement. Yes, they would pay for it!

Unfortunately, due to non-disclosure agreements, I can't discuss the project in more specific terms, and I can't say who their client is. You'll just have to trust me that the ad sounds really neat, and it's something that celebrates Star Wars with just as much enthusiasm as we all do.

I'd like permission to pass on your contact information -- email, phone number, and real name -- so that they can contact you. They'll be able to give you more details about the project and the client, and discuss things like licensing rates and other logistical issues.

Again, I know this sounds completely random, but I can promise you, speaking as not only the director of Plastic Galaxy but also a member of the Star Wars community, it's 100% legit and definitely worth hearing what they've got to say.

If this sounds interesting to you, please EMAIL ME at ... Include the subject line "STAR WARS AD" so I don't accidentally miss it. Include your NAME & RS HANDLE, PHONE, and EMAIL ADDRESS. Again, please don't use PM. You can also email me with any questions you might have (though, again, I might have to be somewhat circumspect in how I answer you due to the NDA).

Thanks a lot for your time. I hope to hear from you.

Cheers,

-Brian ..."

What do you think? I don't really see what harm it could do. I mean I don't mind someone using my photo, which can only be the profile photo I use. Can anything go wrong with this though? :?

I shouldn't imagine you have much to lose, considering you've posted the pictures on public forums already (and for free :D ) - you can trust Brian too.

I guess so. Will just drop him a line and see what he wants exactly. Just didn't know who he was.

I got the same message - as others have said Brian is a good guy so happy to supply my details to anything he is endorsing
If I hadn't had any prior dealings with him I wouldn't have taken the chance but it's pictures I've already posted here and on RS (plus I'm a media whore)

Well I sent him a reply so I'll find out what it is soon enough. Fame at last I hope! 8)

Barry, you are famous- you were a part of the 2013 SWFUK banning on RS.

If you follow this through you'll end up signing a non-disclosure agreement but nothing ventured nothing gained :)

I am so envious of you for having the photo in the first place. Every time I see my folks I ask them if they have found any. My mum keeps on telling me that they didn't really take many photos back then. :(
I live in hope my aunt will find one.
Go for it, you have absolutely nothing to lose!

Cheers guys

Unfortunately it looks like I won't be able to say what the script is. I'll see what they want first and then decide what to do.

To those of us with childhood Star Wars photos, yes, we are privileged. The one I use for my profile was actually lost for a number of years. Hunted high and low and then discovered it in a drawer round my mum's. Lucky really :)

You're right mate, I've got just the one photo of me with my Star Wars toys and it means a lot to me. We didn't live in the snap happy world we do now so it's not surprising really.

Yeh but these days people don't print photos out and stick them in an album or have them in those photo envelope things. Heaven forbid the internet blows up cos if it does there will be a whole generation of folk with no photographic history!
