Got stupid drunk last night.... the worst i've been for a long, long time. So bad that I have no recollection of how we got home and getting into bed.

I've seen photos already of the night out that i'm in but again, no recollection of them being taken!

This is my problem though... I'm 29 and been drinking on and off for around 14 years and the hangovers just seem to be getting worse! I remember when I went out for my 18th and got trollied but was ok the day after... nowadays it takes me a full day to get over the night before  Is it just me?

I know that my main problem is mixing my drinks - last night I was on the Guinness (always am) but also had jaegarbombs (hate them), wine, shots of some orange liquer (mate asked for one of the cheapest shots at the bar - never a good sign) AND everyone we were out with poured a bit of their drink into my pint when I went the toilet (found this out this morning)

Anyways... anyone have any surefire hangover cures? Already done my guaranteed hangover cure of shower and toast (not at the same time) but i'm still dying :(

Liam, you have all of this to look forward too

It's called getting old buddy. I can't drink like that anymore or rather, i chose not to. I work in a pub and usually have a few drinks after work but i keep it to just 4 or 5 pints and no spirits or shots. Just don't enjoy that feeling anymore of being off my face and like you say, the hangovers are horrible. I'm out of commission for 2 or 3 days now if i get totally fit-shased.

God I hate hangovers, I'm 32, 33 in 2 months, and if I get stupid drunk(which is rarely), my hangovers last 3-4 days.....
My cure for the day after, is lots of greasy food, more often than not, a big cheeseburger dripping with fat, probably not a good idea,
but takes away the sting, and lots of fluids, especially water or Fanta Lemon.
I'm a big Coke drinker but it doesn't help the hangover...
Let me know if you find a cure mate!

You answered your own question there Nick, don't mix your drinks for an easier to recover from hangover! I used to drink quite a bit and nothing really gave me much of a hangover but my friends used to really suffer if they mixed, usually if you stick to the same drink all through the night you don't get hit as hard the following day.

Or just don't drink. :D

Slam a whole beer....it will go away.
Todd, if I even sniff any alcohol I would vomit on the spot.

That's another thing... regardless of how much I drink I am usually always sick. To be honest i'm not sure if i'm allergic to alcohol :? Oh, well!

I know mixing really is the problem but when you're already pissed and with a great group of mates (who turn out to be bastards when they give me a dirty pint - thankfully it wasn't a "true" dirty pint  ) I really struggle to say no! Who wants to be a miserable sod?!

Yeah i've done the greasy food Tundra, but i'm a vegetarian and the veggie food they do make doesn't cook that well fried! Pepsi-max, apples and orange ice-lollies seem to work quite well

You can get alcohol poisoning. Some guys end up going to the hospital to get their stomachs pumped. Hard liquor usual it what send them to the hospital. Some people are allergic to alcohol and those people suffer vomiting all the time, 3 day hangovers. Not sure what you have......but you may want to stick to beer.

Face it, we are not the spring chickens we once were. Hangovers kick the **** out of me these days. I get really depressed on a hangover, its just no fun. Plus the adventure is not there, im 99% sure when I go out who I will end up in bed with at the end of the night.

Spot on Joe, mixing leads to all sorts off trouble.

I also find a force puke when you get home helps (gets rid of any alcohol not yet digested), stay awake as long as you can to sober up (and start the hangover before you sleep), while you are up hit the water and food, drop an aspirin before sleepy time, I find spirits are better as they digest quicker and are out of the sytem quicker (10 shots vs 10 pints), have your survival kit next to the bed for when you get up, get a fry up, and finally...
a spliff has remarkable powers to dull a hangover whether you are a smoker or not :D

Good luck next time!!

It has a lot to do with the quality of the drinks you have too. Last year I drank a 750 bottle of cheap vodka over the course of an evening, and my god the next day was the worst hangover I've ever had bar none. I am fairly sure it wasn't even Vodka, it cost about £6 from a dodgy corner shop

I find not drinking saves me getting hangovers!

One thing that does work, but it is the last ****ing thing you wanna do, is going for a run. Gets the metabalism working again and gets the liver fired up to sort out the shite you drank the night before. Bloody hard trying to get yourself to move, let alone run the first few hundred yards, but it does work.

Funny to see this thread, as yesterday I was thinking about hangovers. I used to be terrible when I was 18/19- I would be sick most times I drank heavily and if I got **** faced it would take 2-3 days to recover fully.
Now at 26 I can drink more and hold it down, and feel ok the next day :?

I have had a few heavy weekends of late, and I have been bloody loving it   Making up for lost time

Nothing worse than a stinking hangover. I should know as a binge drinking Scot. Here are my hangover cures.

Cheese McCoys
Bacon butty
Exercise
Irn Bru
Sleep

If all else fails a brandy and port.

Generally forcing food down and getting on with stuff works best.

I hope your alright by now nick?
As a semi-retired party animal I know what hitting the wall of age can do to your partay-ing abilities .
The guys have hit the nail on the head but print out this little guide for your next drink mission.

1. Eat something before you go out.

2. Stick to one drink. Don't even mix types of beer.

3. Stay out of rounds , there's always some monster able to woof down booze and speed up the pace.

4. When you go to the bar order a glass of water , and slam it. " pulling a ewwwwh face helps to convince folk you just hammered 300mls of vodka"

5. When you have to close one eye to focus or when ever girl in the place looks "do-able" STOP DRINKING.
Then become the wingman and approach all the ladies on behalf of your mates , this will keep you busy and not drinking.

6. Go home via a takeaway and get the grease in. Indian places do good veggie stuff . Baji's samosa's etc.

7, drink water, and a isotonic before bed. And leave some beside your bed to sip during the night if you wake up for a piss break.

8. In the morning . Wake. Eat something drink lots. Have sex. Then back to sleep until a determined time.

9. Get up and do something.

10. You will be fine by the time antiques roadshow is on the telly.

Quality everyone, thanks very much, especially you Steve for the 10 point plan!

Glad to announce that I have now fully recovered 2 days after the event. The worst part, as usual, is that I've damaged my throat from throwing up so much. Taste buds have slightly gone and it hurts when I breathe!

I get so angry with myself as I NEVER learn and this happens every time. All of my mates and family know me as the person with the worst hangovers!

Worst thing I've discovered is that whatever happens don't cough mid-vomit as it comes out your nose and ruins your sense of smell for days.
