Guess the auction price for the Palitoy VCJ

This one will be winging its way over the pond shortly as the buyer is American. Wonder if it will be AFA graded?

It looks like the hype got the better of it here. It is one thing publicising the hell out of an item but if your site can't cope with the traffic its almost counter productive. Gutted for Nick here as he and potentially others were let down by the internet/ site. Was there a possibility of placing your top bid at the start/ before the auction? If so, this would have been preferable.

It sounds Like lee had a bit of a mixed bag too. Some good some bad. I hope it evened out. Commission seemed way too much for buyers to really get there teeth in.

Hi guys,

See a few mention about me not leaving top bids prior to the auction start. I had some issues last time during the August auctions, the Vectis set up seems a bit odd.

I had gone through the auction the previous night (to the August one) putting in my tops bids for the items I wanted. I did this in case I couldnt get the time to log in. I did, however, manage to log in. The way Vectis seem to have it set up is odd - some of the lots I had left bids on were selling for under my top bids - and I had no idea if it was me that was winning or not - as I could still click bid. So either 1) My previous bids were being ignored, or 2) I was bidding against myself (like I said it could still bid, the button wasn't green telling my I was highest bidder - so how can you tell?).

It's definitely an odd system they have.

As for today, total clusterfuck - It was running smoothly pretty much until just before Lee's auction started. Then it was all over the place - causing me to miss out on his Pali RotJ Jawa, losing out on a Leia, nearly buying a Stormtrooper and then the Pali VCJ. Should have phoned, but have learned a valuable lesson today lol.

Mind you, the mood I was in they may have hung up on me - the profanity here was pretty bad haha.

Had a few hours to reflect. I guess the positive is that the net **** up has saved me 11-15k - I can now look and see what I can do with that to enhance the Jawa collection (with luck could have a Toltoys ESB VCJ - which will more than make up for it).

Glad Lee's happy with how his went - I know some bits could have gone higher, but at least you don't have all the hassle of doing descriptions - posting to people - and dealing with any awkward customers or items lost in post! :)

Ah well... back to hunting down more bits for the focus :)

Peeps on rebel scum had connectivity issues their end too. Kathy had their tech guy look at things but they said they couldn't see any issues their end. They said the incoming traffic was a little higher than they usually got, but not massively higher.

That doesn't surprise me. When I have watched previous Vectis auctions there have also had connection issues. :(

Maybe they just don't know, it's probably the first time someone has pointed so many people having issues out to them.

cheers Jason

I've sent another update to kathy, about all the issues to date, and people having issues with the August auction too. Maybe they'll invest in some new server bandwidth/processing speed for the next one. Failing that, if you are having issues, pick up the phone and bid that way!

:)

you would think with the television promos and what not that vectis would be better prepared! they must of known that alot of people would be logging on too see these particular live auctions! also i hope that someone inhouse @ vectis sees this thread and improve upon the website for usability and realiabilty for further rare pieces that come through there door. they lost out on nicks money he was prepared to go over 10k for pvcj

Really gutted for you Nick,I used to go mental when I lost out bidding on eBay in the last few seconds a few years ago due to connectivity problems so I can only imagine how you must've felt yesterday on losing out on a piece of that magnitude! :(

On a more positive note,it may take a while but you can be sure that another will turn up & the more that do,the price will probably come down (unless a bidding war breaks out!). :D

Have updated the numbers and blurb on my website to include the Vectis sale:-

So is this the most high profile star wars themed auction ever?

No. Premier Collectible Auction in 2008 in San Diego (same time as the Comic Con) was much bigger. Run by a certain Mr. Tom Derby the array of vintage SW on show was simply jaw dropping. As for the PAL VCJ being a high profile piece - howabout the MOC Rocket Fett up for $100,000! It was also the last time that Tom N. had original artwork for sale (although I think that most of his stuff was sold off book afterwards).

I was fortunate enough to have a few pieces in the catalogue. I would strongly recommend anyone who doesn't have one to try and pick up a copy which also includes Ghostbusters, GI-Joe, MOTU etc - some great photography in it.

Cheers,
Christian

The whole thing was a big letdown really, the website is very confusing. I was interested in the 20 back Hammerhead but didn't want to live bid because a) it seemed way too complicated, b) I didn't like the idea of registering my credit card details on an untrusted website before I bid.
So I emailed my max bid last week, and after all the problems I'm glad I did. Didn't win it though, should of bid on R5D4.
Ebay has it's drawbacks, but I'm sure higher prices would of been achieved had these figures been sold there.

That was an insane auction. Full run of 3 packs up for as well I believe.
