Graded Yak with a Blaster???

Correct me If I'm wrong here, but am I right in thinking that people take figures off not great condition cards and send them to get graded? To make more money than probably the carded figure is worth? And people get pissed off that vintage cards are getting destroyed for profit?

Indeed, although it runs a bit deeper than that. There are certain sellers (the owner of the item in the OP) who do it pretty regularly. It is always stated that the cards were damaged/broken but proof has been seen to suggest that this is sometimes a load of bollocks.

What is annoying is that there are people out there buying these loose, U -Graded figures at prices that justify the destruction of the cards - if people stopped doing this then there wouldn't be a market

ShawnK has got a very good link at the bottom of his posts that explain a lot more - perhaps someone could link this up

what an interesting webpage! now that im more clued up i hate ugrades looking at that spread sheet its killing the hobby. what the **** to afa do with all the card backs............. i hope they dont throw them away that would be sacrilege :(

I think the cards are sent back to the seller/collector- who sells them on ebay. They make good money on them as, guess what? The cardbacks are in fantastic condition.

Yes they are...they slit the bubbles down the side. It has been pointed out that cardback collectors fuel this fire by buying the cardbacks.

I dont care if all my MOC are AFA90.

I have a trilogo Rancor Keeper which looks like its been sat on. I think its freakin great.

Now i own it- it will be looked after for the next 50 years.

I cant find a Luke Hoth MOC for the right price. If a beaten up Luke Hoth MOC landed for £35. Id be so freakin happy.

These figures have been on a 30 year plus journey- just to be destroyed.

Reminds me of the Ivory trade. Looks ****ing great on a rhino. **** it a box in a foreign jewlery shop.

Yes it's a waste and yes it's stupid.............but we are in the minority with that opinion as many people scoop up these "U" grades and pass on the cheaper carded figures due to minor creases and bubble dents.
