Hi all...

As mentioned in my 'introduce yourself' I'm living in Germany, Nurnberg to be exact. I realised there's quite a few people mentioned German transaction, just wondering if anyones had a a dialogue with german collectors re: where to shop.

I've been depressed as to not being able to hunt personally and resorted to ebay for the most - keen to have the thrill of the hunt.

To give you all an idea of the level of shops here in Nurnberg - they still have a C&A and also have a coffe shop called 'Mr Blecks' with a picture of a dark skinned 'bean-waiter' hilariously racist, purely for the ignorance of it. Still, they do call hip hop and rap 'black music' over here.

cheers for any heads up!

Krauts? I guess there are no krauts here...

Welcome aboard! For me I buy from ebay, rebelscum, private contacts - I guess the time for fleamarkets, little to medium toyshows and so are over - unfortunately.

Enjoy reading the threads and talking to other 'strange people' :D

Uli

P.S. Don't hesitate to send over a pm if you have any questions - and pictures of your collection are always very welcome!

I must admit I also feel that word is a bit off... considering it came about during the war as something to call German people it can't exactly be an affectionate term!

I have often seen German people refer to themselves and their countrymen in this way, in Germany is it seen as offensive? or misunderstood?
:?:

To be honest I'm not sure if we Germans take it as offence or not but it surely was a term used during WWII.

The last person I personally knew who was involved in the war died a few years back - this makes me pretty sure that no kraut is signed up here at the forum :D

When it's used by one German member to describe himself and other German members I wouldn't worry Joe. I'm sure Lafos was joking around!
He's definately not a **** stirrer!

lol yeah I didn't think it was meant to upset especially coming from Lafos but it rings alarm bells with me when I see it or hear it lol (thinking back to school when kids used to shout at the german teacher " get lost you kraut"  )

I just wasn't sure how Germans viewed the word considering it was us that used it as a derogatory term by us for them!

Thanks for clearing it up :)

I'm sure there is a German equivalent for us.
Tommies, was the British soliders names for themselves, I think.

I wonder if kids in Germany call their English teachers Tommies

Or are English kids just bastards?? ..don't answer that!

Most german english teachers are germans, so there´s no need of finding a "foreign" declaration.

We don´t call you Tommies, although this is a well known expression for UK people, we call you "the guys who can´t shot penalties" ...

funnily enough I try out a few racial slurs with my german mate from time to time.

I used Gerry the other day and he jumped straight into Tommy this etc etc.

I normally end the conversation by saying 'well at least Scotland didn't start any wars"

Always in jest but good fun all the same.

Ah to be an eternal foreigner. We got some lessons as part of our relocation over here, alas I lasted 4 or 5 and then gave up as doing real work seemed far more important than learning how to corrupt my understanding of sentence structure and how to count.

One and Twenty....I mean come on that's just insane.
