Just to even it up for us Non English people

PS, RIP Alan McDonald. Far too young to die from a coronary.

Too young to remember Italia 90 (remember the shoot out as my mum was crying!)

USA94 was my proper first tournament and then there was Euro 96 of course but don't forget this JC

Italy '90 was AMAZING! and love '98.

Haven't followed England much since then. Got sick of the prima donnas and a sence of entiltlment and arrogance that seem to the DNA of the team. Especially in the last world cup with was horrible.

Felt like that had gone in the Euro's it was nice to see England play to their ability and be both humble and passionate. Much better.

Would have loved another Germany vs England Semi.

As good as the Germans alawys are- i bet they would be paranoid as hell just because they were playing England.

But i dont really know what im talking about because im welsh and prefer Rugby.

I remember Owen's goal. Brilliant!
I also remeber Glen Hoddle didn't want to take him cos he said he wasn't old enough! Nice one Glen.
Mind you that's still not the dumbest thing Hoddle ever said.

Italia 90 was the first tournament I remember watching, I can't remember a huge amount about it TBH. Other than England getting to the semis obv. I do vaguely remember the footy being pretty dire and defensive.

Euro 96 was much better.

We were actually quite **** in 1990. I think people choose to remember it differently but it was a miracle we got as far as we did. We scraped out of the group with 1 win. Scraped past Belgium in the first round 1-0 and then nearly lost to Cameroon in the QFs. If it weren't for 2 penalties we would have lost and they very nearly equalised at the end to take it to ET. Then we got our first real test- Germany. We lost.

True- but the Belgium, Cameroon and Germany games were nail biting. I loved the Germany game. It had everything. I think both sides hit the post and linkers goal is my all time favourite.

Lol, no rose tinted glasses for you :D

My tinted rims help me remember it very differently....

Dodgy start to the group, I think an injury or suspension forced us to make changes that actually made us better, beat the Belgies 1-0 (last minute winner), a bit lucky against Cameroon, took the lead against the Germans, they got a lucky deflected goal, we drew but lost on penalties (the beginning of our penalties woe). Lost the third place match due to Gazza being suspended.

Then again that reads pretty close to your description

I just remember Lineker continually getting us out of the ****! Both in 1986 and 1990, balls of steel on the penalties. Then following on a few years Shearer came
along and Owen. Since Owen has slipped out of the team we have missed that talisman up front. Rooney has played it at times but his position changes
so much. Carroll is so limited on the ground, I can't see him having a big future. I would have taken Crouch personally, the guy has never let England down
has a good scoring record for England and is ok with the ball at his feet. He just seems to be overlooked due to his frame and the fact he now plays for Stoke.

That said you could have had Pele up front and we wouldn't have won that tournament and I don't see this as a team thats going to improve for the next world cup. Parker Lampard and Gerrard might all be too old, who's coming through? I think its going to be a few lean years now after all the unrealised talent that came through in the late 90's.

Never has a more truthful truth been spoken on this forum!

What's funnier though was the back page of the Sun when Roy apparently aske Rooney to be his Pele

Yeah but i was talking about Rooney with England. Rooney at Man U is a different player. Runs every game, never misses a pass and scores goals for fun. 10/10 player. For England Rooney is useless- misplaces every pass, makes bad decisions, runs around like a headless chicken, runs out of steam early in the 2nd half and very rarely shoots let alone scores. 4/10 player.

Me & my Mrs favourite sexual position is called the ''England football team'' Neither of us know what we're doing or why we're there, there's No passion, No communication & we never make it past the 1st stage! There's horrible dribbling & Never a clean sheet! Its over far too quickly & when it does end I know it'll be at least another Four ****in years before it happens again!!!

Strange but true.

Nah, at the end of the PLseason Carroll was the in form striker in the league. English striker, obv. So he should definitely have gone. You want people who are playing well now not people wo have played well in the past. I don't disagree that Carroll is limited as a player, I just don't think he's as useless as people make out.
I also think the Crutch is very underrated, probably cos he looks so ungamely. Saying that, bar 1 wonder trike his last season was pretty underwhelming.

Oh and for the record, I think I said this before the tournament, I would have given serious consideration to not taking Rooney.

I dont know why he looks so drained for England, maybe it was the break but he not only looked slow and tired but weak, a couple of the headed chances he only got about 6 inches off the ground. Same at the last world cup.

He needs to come back Everton. :D

Ronaldo got exactly what he deserved there - what a prat - why not send him up for the first penalty - the first guy who took a pen for Portugal was awful

That was ****ing hilarious. Ronaldo obviously asked to go last so he could be the big hero and 'win the game' for Portugal. So funny. His face when he realised what he'd done was priceless.
