Wow...

I just came from my parents home after taking all of my old Star Wars toys out of their storage.

I have not touched these in over 25 years.

I discovered that I may be in possession of 3 of the rarest Star Wars actions figures around.

From what I can tell (from my research), I have the "Duel telescoping light saber" Darth Vader, Obi Wan and Luke Skywalker action figures from the early bird Kenner line of 1978.

None of them still have the light saber any more.

I distinctly remember as a child being frustrated with the impracticable nature of the sabers and chewing on them, abusing them and eventually losing them / throwing them away without much thought. Doh!

Anyway, I am thinking of getting these graded by AFA before selling.

What are they worth roughly?

Darth in package with saber is worth $7,000 I read. Could I expect around $2,000 for him with cape and loose (no package) in good shape?

See pics below...

Mate, you have to introduce yourself in the INtroduction thread before posting anything for sale. The pitchforks are being sharpened as we speak.

And re your thread- I don't see any light sabres at all let alone DT light sabres.
These figs without Sabres are worthless. We're talking pence not pounds.

Cheers
Pete.

My apologies Pete. :| I will head to the intro forum.

That's what I feared... that the value is in the actual light sabers.

So rare figures without the telescoping sabers are worthless? Hmmm...

Oh, and I was not trying to sell them, just trying to understand what I have.

No probs. Yeah, unless the figures actually come with the original Light-sabres they are very hard to sell.
Same goes for any 'regular' figure really.
Don't be frightened to ask tho if you find anything else. Always fun to see people childhood collections.

Darth & OB1 were not part of the early bird kit. And yes DT value is 99% due to the saber. Always neat to find part of your childhood collection. The figures are worth 5 pounds each max.

Felt like having the winning lottery combination and then finding out you were reading last weeks paper didn't it.

Just for info here's a poor picture for comparison showing the DT figures next to the standard ones.

Here's a close up of the vader.

As others have said, without the saber they are worthless. But if these were from your childhood and you've just found them, don't let the lack of value take anything away from it. It's great finding stuff that meant something as a kid. That's what this hobby is all about, not money.

Thanks for the input guys.

Yeah... did feel a bit like having a winning lottery ticket!

Ah well.

Just curious... were the "DT" figures of Vader, Obi and Luke the only ones that had the groove in the backs of their right forearms?

If so, then I do have the rare figures, but without the sabres. Doh!

Who could have known that those cheap (at the time) little needle thin light sabres were going to be worth so much?

They made great toothpicks for me at 7-8 years old though. :(

Thanks for the pics Sith!

So, it looks like the only difference is the sabre?

They all have the same "groove" in the arm.

Unless Luke or Obi Wan's hair color make a difference, they are identical except for the sabre type.

Yeah, Ben, Vader and the first release of Luke all had the sabre that came from the arm. The DT sabre, was a much longer version as you can see in Gary's pics. They are just much rarer than the normal short sabre versions so they can fetch quite a bit of money.

Gotcha. Only the sabre is the difference.

Crazy.

You're joking right - those figs wouldn't have been much good on the card to a kid
