Flipping Pandemic

The thing I do not get is them going "Check out my latest find/haul"..as if they are excited and it is going into their collection and then in the same breath state "All for sale soon". ****ing morons.

Exactly, they're not collectors, more comparable to fisherman!

I'm stealing that... :P

I just want to say, anything I'm selling right now isn't from Vectis  Also, hopefully people will respect that in the currant market, I haven't set my prices high at all! I've been rather lucky with buying a few MOC's at the moment (Andy's helped me out a bit) but I agree that people buying from Vectis are already paying higher than the true value prices, and to think there is profit to be made is madness! Hopefully it won't be long before people buying for profit will realize they already paid over the odds to begin with and will become desperate to try and claw back some money back - So hopefully we should see prices drop.

How's this for some fast flipping, could this be the fastest?

But that's pointless. He paid 1250 plus shipping. If he gets his 1500 he'll lose 201 in fees. That leaves him £49 profit on a £1500 sale. Surely no one is that desperate for a tiny profit?

Was just about to write that myself - there is no benefit at all to do that - and the potential hassle is it got damaged in the post makes it completely pointless

I do think that the new seller was a bit of a character that turned up on here (until Edd banned him)

It actually sold as 'Best offer', and a quick ebay search on sold items in price order indicates it sold between £960 and £990.

Yeah - I noticed that he got it best offer - but that would still mean he would have to get asking price to make any decent profit - if the other guy had it up for sale at 1250 and no-one snapped his hand off then why does the new seller think he can get 1450 ?

Completely agree Iain :) And to answer your question; because he's a money-grabbing opportunistic idiot?!

Exactly this. If I remember right, it's been up for sale for ages (months) before selling to the new guy, along with all his other over-priced stuff.

I think the original seller was the dork who bought up a ton of stuff at an auction, sent it to UKG who gave it all **** grades, and then he had a whinge about it and threatened all kinds of stuff?

Edit: Yes he was. His Ben listing says this "I originally had this graded and sealed by UKG but was unhappy with the grading so sent it to AFA with a another couple I recently had graded and sealed."

So he's bought the figures, paid Auction House fees, two lots of grading fees and postage, then ebay seller fees

No wonder he doesn't ever reduce them, he can't afford to!! :D

Shame more flippers don't **** up this badly. It would discourage them from getting involved in the future.

More often that not, the highly public flippers have made nothing, still have the stuff, or have made a tiny profit. I know people have made money, but it's just not the cash cow everyone seems to think it is, particularly if you're not 100% sure of market values, or grades don't go as you'd like.

I can't believe anybody would pay near £1000 pound for a AFA 75 for a Palitoy 20 back hammerhead mind thinking someone would pay £1500 for one.
I really do think that this current trend on so called flipping is slowly killing this hobby by pricing true collectors out of being able to obtain items.

Just pointless!

I think the consolation in all of this is these guys come on, try and make money, don't (lose money), then disappear. There will be a finite number of them and things will settle down soon I'm sure. Vectis's success has made this mainstream but it will become niche again.

Ultimately it's up to the buyers to wake up to sellers flipping tactics, do some research and get educated on rarity and collecting in general, if they do that then they'll save themselves money. In most cases you can find out where an item came from so it's best to check completed listings/forums blah blah, you'll usually be able to spot where an item was picked up and more importantly for how much.. (Might also be an idea for people to ditch buying graded pieces too..but for some that's not an option so best not bother going into that one!)

That was how I approached the (over)spending when I wrote that Trilogo article about prices because as far back as I can remember there have always been dealers, flippers and people that stick ridiculous prices on their items in the hobby, the only difference is that years ago people ridiculed them for it and today they fall for it and pay up. So it's all on the buyers. If you flat out refuse to pay someone's silly price then they'll have to lower it..that tactic isn't working so good lately of course but that's simply because there are far more people out there that don't know what an acceptable price is than there were before.

It's all about recognising what a good deal is and what's not IMO, if you newish and buying things to show off or to keep up with other people you see limelighting on FB then you are bound to overpay.

What I like about SWF compared to the FB groups is that the majority of people on here know their stuff, have been around long enough to understand prices and in most cases would rather walk away from a silly price than pay the piper. That's exactly why this place is pretty much the last platform on the internet where the majority of the members are honest, genuine collectors who don't stand for bullshit selling tactics and aren't scared to call people out on blatant flipping. We get very few "dealers" on here (thank god) and those that do sell often on SWF and call it home list their items for fair prices and are appreciated by the community.

Keep it up SWF :D

I've tried several times to find where Star Wars items are being sold on FB but with no luck. I don't understand what I'm looking for. I followed a few of the collecting pages, but all their last posts are several months ago. Can someone give me a link to a couple of examples? Cheers

Most of the groups have applied for a a sales section which pins the most recent sales at the top but you can also just click "see all ___ sales posts", here are some:

12 Back and ROTJ groups:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/234166273438102/forsaleposts/

https://www.facebook.com/groups/240626229467404/forsaleposts/

(think you have to be a member)

Jason's group doesn't have a sales tool but you can just search certain terms in the search box, here is one for "For Sale": https://www.facebook.com/groups/vintagestarwarsactionfigures/search/?query=for%20sale

The thing I find on most FB groups lately are handful of newer collectors with deep pockets trying buy everything like its some kind of ****ing race. It's like they are willing to pay 300% more for stuff just in order to go on FB and say...mail call!!!....New Haul!!!!!. ****ing stupid. Collecting is about fun...the hunt...it is done over time. Some of these newer guys have way more money than sense.
