Figures that were never in stock when you were a kid

I also remember where I saw and purchased certain figures, mainly because I had to plead with my Mum for an advance in pocket money if I saw a HTF figure, as it would be ages before I would see one again, if ever again!

Hammerhead and Princess Leia (white gown) saw at the same time - Tesco of all places!!
Greedo, Squid Head, Luke Jedi, ERG, Bib, Logray - Independent Toy/Stationers called 'Salters'
Lando General, Wicket, R5D4 - Independent Toy Store called 'Cosycot'
IG88, Leia Poncho, Han Trench Coat - John Menzies
Power Droid, Luke Farmboy saw at the same time - Allders (Department store)
Luke Bespin, Ben Kenobi - Gamleys Toy Shop

Can't remember the rest, but vividly remember the above.

Thanks Andy, funny how I distinctly remember these buys, but Star Wars was my childhood and nearly every Saturday morning I was on the telephone ringing around certain toy shops asking if they had particular figures in stock. Looking back now my parents were quite understanding and tolerant of this

Resourceful  How old were you at that time?

Does anyone remember Toy & Hobby? Used to there quite a bit. The Preston and Chester ones.

****ing Vinyl cape Jawa on Palitoy 12 back  Couldnt find one for 35 years

Just kidding chaps. One figure that always dodged me was Lando Calrissian-****ing smuggler.

In Scotland there was the Jolly Giant Superstore - a bit like Toys R Us. Did you have those stores in England?

I remember seeing a Stormie in the shops and wanting it! I was told I couldn't have it that day we would have to get it next week, went back next week it was gone, cue whining and tears, followed by the purchase of C3PO which obviously lead to more whining and tears

Can't ever remember Myself or Mumbo owning a Stormie as a kid (he will correct me if I'm wrong  ) or ever seeing one in the shops again, so for me he is the rarest of the rare.

For me I remember it taking ages to find IG-88 and Yoda when they were first released they seemed like gold dust a couple of the kids had them but I couldn't find one for love nor money. for RoTJ I remember trawling every shop in sheffield for months looking for a Luke Jedi with a blue saber!

As mentioned in my top 5 post, I never found a Luke X Wing or Biker Scout. There were probably others too, but they were the two I was really looking for.

Brilliant - Yoda was elusive - I got one for xmas 81 on, ahh those Palitoy cards....(someone invent a time machine please!!)

My only source for figures as a kid were the shops local to me. Tesco, 'House of Holland' to name a couple.

Rem looking for ages for a Yoda and Fett. got them both on 45b Palitoy from Tesco.

Had a nice Luke Bespin find at 'House of Holland', rem that one being tough to find.

Rem once searching to the back of the rack in Tesco and finding an original Han on a Jedi card. Also rem seeing a load of black Bespin Guards on Jedi cards.

Got Luke farmboy, Ben and Vader on Jedi cards from Argos.

Golden memories :D

I'm sure Argos stated in their catalogue, 'the figures pictured might not be the one you actually received' - this always put me off buying from them.

I was probably about 11 or 12 - would have been around 1982/83/84

I was extremely lucky enough to have most of them, apart from the last 17, but the one that eluded me was Hammerhead. Xmas, birthdays and caning pocket money, trawling anywhere that sold SW, I managed to get a set together, apart from solid dome R2 and fixed limbs 3PO, which I had and lost, and until recently, never replaced. But seemed to be impossible back then to find Hammerhead, the sneaky git.

Thinking about it for a couple of days, i remember that i wanted Snaggletooth, but he was no where to be seen, so I never had him (do we know 'he' is male??)

Find it odd that people are saying Yoda was hard to find, remember that when we first went to get figures there was only Yoda and Vader available, didn't want them at that point!!

When i did get Yoda (most likely from Hills in Spalding) i remember walking through town with Mum, Nan and i think my brother, and i dropped him (still MoC) on the zebra crossing between the job centre and Priors Oven Bakery, had to wait for the traffic to stop to go get him, tense times!!

my brother and sister had already handed down to me chewbacca, yoda, darth vader, c3p0 so that was a start to my collection.

i was born around the time empire came out so only really got to buy jedi figures when they were in the shops.

weequay, nikto, ackbar, prune face, rancor keeper, chief chirpa, teebo, logray, biker scout, bib fortuna, gamorean guard, emporer, ree-yees i picked up from various toy shops but i told my parents that i really wanted luke jedi and leia boushh, we searched for quite some time and i can remember lifting rows and rows of chief chirpas to see what figures were at the back eventually finding them both.

that xmas my parents bought me jabba playset, ewok glider, speeder bike, isp-6 and vehicle maintenance energizer :)

i never saw any last 17 figures but i did find an ewok village and rebel transporter in a corner shop in cornwall on holiday, that was about all the vintage stuff i saw or managed to get when it was on the shelf.

im very lucky to have these memories from my childhood.

years later i realised from backs of cards what figures i was missing and it took me ages going around car boots and collecters fairs in the early 90s with my dad trying to find bespin guards, ugnaught, and a few other empire figures.

apart from the last 17 for some reason star destroyer commander took me ages to find loose?
