There were always figures I could never find when I was a kid Dengar was one, Cloud Car Pilot was another.
Conversely my older Brother remembers loads and loads of C-3POs hanging on shelves.

Did any of you guys have memories of what was and what was not available?

I do remember there being loads of Jedi stuff in the stores but all the figures i had in my profile pic (mostly ESB) i have no idea where they came from. So no, i have no idea what was available up to ROTJ, but even then they were mostly the actual figures from the film, not the earlier ones.

If i had ever seen a Jawa or Snowtrooper i would have bought them. Obviously i never did

Someone mentioned Dengar - i saw loads of them in bargain bins along with Reeyees. Remember tossing them aside along with Klaatu and Weequay, thinking 'bollocks, i want something decent!'

I remember doing something similar in the mid 80s with Walrus man - there were loads of the King of fish faces on Jedi cards and I just pushed him aside to get to Ree-yees and Nikto  - What a nob I think to myself.

There where som many that i could not find here in Denmark . And i looked in many stores .

Luke Farmboy , Denger , Black Bespin Guard , CCP , Walrus man , Greedo , 4 -lom ,
The list is long ...

It's interesting to find how available they were in other countries

Seems mad now considering its so common these days but when we had the toy shop the only figure we couldn't get was the standard Klaatu one. We had a long list of kids that wanted it

Perhaps they hit the shelves as SW popularity was badly fading so that's why many MOCs are still available, similar to POTF.

Just out of interest, where did you get the toys for your toyshop? Cash 'n' Carry?

Used to go to Cash 'n' Carry with my dad and remember seeing loads of ROTJ figures.

I lost Luke farmboy on holiday in Sheringham, that one was hard to find!!

Funny that - I lost Leia Bespin on a holiday to London. Holidays in the UK were great - it meant I could check out other toy shop's to see if they had different stock :D

I only ever saw 4 of the last 17, had no idea there were another 13.

I knew I didn't have Han trenchcoat or B-wing pilot.

Not sure why not, especially the Han which was a pretty core figure.

I do remember trouble getting Chewbacca as a kid in the 70's

Jawa and yoda also seemed tough.

I almost never saw any of the early 20 figures on ESB/ROTJ cards. I can remember thinking as a kid why were they on the back of the card if not available in the shop

Power droid for me, could not get that little box for the life of me back in Leicester in the day & I used to go over to Germany every summer to visit my dad & always had to take a bag full of standard stormtroopers in hamburg for some reason, so everyone there used to have hoth troopers as a stand in, weird as of all the figure not to have in stock that was the weirdest - no imperials to fight? :?

Another figure very very hard to get in Hamburg was Iggy

Also remember is being tough to find the DSD over here & Jawas

Most of the stuff came from palitoy itself. I can remember the rep visiting and the we'd get consignments at different times - some would be figure cases, sometime vehicles and then other times other toy lines. It all seemed quite random to me as a goofy teenager.

We did go to the cash and carry as we'll, plus macro. I just rooted through the figure cases while my dad did the real shopping. I'm so OCD I liked to keep at least two of every figure out on the shelves and the normal case mixes were mainly the new ROTJ ones so finding the older ones was my job :D

I could never find Walrus man, death star droid, power droid or the cloud car pilot !

Always got Han Hoth at birthdays and Xmas ! Have five of him loose!

The only figure I never saw as a kid was snaggletooth

Greedo was the first figure I ever got, thank god I bought him there and then because I never saw him ever again!

Also the following only saw once
Jawa

Other toughies to find, although I tracked them down eventually - Ben Kenobi, Power Droid, Stormtrooper (so much for an army builder, never any on the pegs where I lived)

A lot of my friends struggled to get Yoda, but I remember seeing him quite often, It came down to being in the right place at the right time, as the popular figures flew off the pegs the minute new stock arrived.

Saw loads of Bespin Guards (both types), Cloud Car Pilots, Klaatu's, Bib, Darth Vader, Luke Hoth, Rebel Commando, ewoks etc

I'm trying to think of what I can remember seeing on card and what friends in my area had along with me. errmmm I can remember there being a load of Ewoks warming hangers in Chads and Smiths also 3PO and the obvious Ree Yees and Klatuu. But I remember loads of my friends I played with had bens and Luke FB's so they must have been easy in my area I myself never had them 2 I had more ROTJ and last 15 figgies.
(Off topic)
Also I can't remember if I ever posted this here but my Auntie used to bring these clear bags full of Ewoks,Jabbas goons and last 15 figs from some market stall in Hereford when I lived there for a bit I've always wanted to ask her about that stall but have no contact with her.

The only memory I have of a kid is picking up a Ben Kenobi. I remember this because my mother was attempting to force me to get a Vader as we were in the queue to meet him. I'm sure I put him back and picked up Vader as I remember getting a pat on my head off Vader.
We were poor as kids and never went to the shops again, the rest of my collection came from Xmas and birthday presents.

Same here - poor. My parents split. Dad was rich, mum was poor. Don't remember my mum buying me any toys at all, just had loads of second hand stuff. Dad got me all the Star Wars. I do vaguely remember picking up a Darth Vader with him. He might of been my first one. Probably an ESB back.

Jedisearcher - nice story about the shop. Fascinating about the reps dropping by. I bet they could have got anything if you asked

Funny thing is when I get all nostalgic now it's not the toys that get me, although I collect them, but a fantastic thick palitoy catalogue we used to have. Not just Star Wars but all palitoy stuff. I don't think it was a general release thing, but a reps copy, must've been 80 pages thick with a hard spine. I used to skive in the store room surrounded by toys reading it. It's a personal grail item for me :D

Obviously if anyone has one please PM me
