Figures that were a pain in the arse to get hold of?....

My childhood memories of buying star wars come from the jedi period.Jawa was pretty difficult to get, used to keep going in hoping there would be one, eventually I got lucky.Other ones I really wanted but couldn't get were

Greedo
Hammerhead

Mine was a stormtrooper could never get one! Mum ended up getting me a At-At driver which I still have.
Now its probably a jawa wish I had bought one a few years ago when the wer around £200-300. I don't think I will ever own one now. Unless I get lucky in some random job lot on e-bay :)

Back in '78 Vader and Luke seemed to be very hard to find (perhaps unsurprising being the villain and hero) but by far the hardest was the cloth Jawa. The vinyl cape one however seemed very common in S.London, appearing in bargain bins as late as 1980. Did I ever buy one? No...

Power Droid and Greedo

Never saw any POTF figures either.

The ones that were the easiest for me were all the ROTJ ones particularly Jabbas goons, Luke X-wing and any of the imperials but particularly Stormtroopers.

It's those 20-back figures whose names keep cropping up. No wonder they're all among my favourites. I longed hard for the ones I needed and my school-mates admired the ones I had.

POTF-wise, I've got a pal who still gripes that he never did see ( as he puts it ) Jabba's Brown Droid and the Green Rebel Pilot in a shop.

I remember seeing POTF figures for the first time but with the slight change of design on the cardbacks and with the coins from the all too familier SW,ESB and Jedi cards I first thought they were 'cheap copy' figures and not proper licnesed ones, and for this reason alone I didn't bother with them until a school mate of mine mentioned about them being 'proper Starwars figures' so with that I decided to buy them but they were quiet hard to find as well what with the decline in popularity of the toy line....I managed to buy a few from the shops but majority of my POTF came to me through swaps etc...

Never saw a Power Droid and was desperate for one as a kid. Think because it was such an odd shape compared to everything else. I don't ever recall seeing a ton of figures. God bless Wales.

Luke Bespin and Boba Fett were very hard to track down locally for me on their initial release, took months to find them (eventually found just one Fett, unopened but had a faded and loose leg!)

The shops usually focused on the latest wave of figures- I had all the 20 backs from their first release apart from Snaggletooth and remember this being very hard to find around 1982 amidst the new figures released at the time.

I never had R5D4 or hammerhead , red snag and greedo remember picking them up later. early 90's. would have bought these back at the time as I liked them but bought most of my figs " empire time" so they could not have been around. I did have a power droid and tusken on a SW card so they must have still had sw cards in the local toy shop but not these on either sw or empire. Used to go there and the local market shop later on "Jedi time" with any spare money. Remember that the market shop used to keep the cards in the original shipping boxes and you used to flick through them like records got got got got need yes got got got got need yes, if only I had bought the whole box back then but who was to know  think they we 50p at the market shop but were mostly the usual klaatu / ree yees etc but sometimes you could find a madine or even a rebel commando if you were really lucky :D

Cantina creatures and jawa. I confess I stole my mate matthew criddle's jawa in desperation. I've never made that public until now!

If it's a VC then I should remind you that Criddle isn't a common name and he could be found quite easily. Hand me the Jawa or Mr Criddle will be getting s series of interesting letters, :D

Always remember a posh kid round the corner that went on holiday to New York (come on who goes on holiday to New York back in the late 70s?), he came back with a sand people and a dewback that upto a few years I could have sworn was a bantha that before I knew different, so at the time, Deffo a sand person

Ha ha. Nah, just a regular one. Pretty sure I poached a few others though back in the day. I blame his dad for not clearing up his sons toys from his front garden before going to bed. That's asking for trouble.
