Hi guys I bought this Black Bespin Guard on ebay, I think it is cool with the missing date. But I got confused about if it has been faked or if it was done on a factory.

When I saw the legs looks different and there is some damage on the leg that looks like some kind of clearcoat on the leg that maybe makes it look more smooth. You can maybe see on the picture there is an area where the clearcoat is gone on the leg. I do not know if it is some kind of clearcoat, but I just call it that because it looks like the same with cars when the clearcoat break on the car.

You can also see a little bit of the year on the leg.

Have any of you guys seen that before and what do you think factory error or fake ?

I can't imagine these being faked - just at the moment...factory error of some kind.

I just thought about Frank who had a Yak Face that was faked with the coo :?

There are actually very few "fake" figures out there. It's really not worth the trouble of creating a reproduction figure that looks good enough to pass for the real thing unless a) you or someone you know has access to costly machinery which can crank them out super cheap (like Poon) or b) you can make enough money to cover your costs by selling them to warrant the effort.

The only reason we see fake/custom Blue Snaggletooth figures or Yak Face figures is because they are actually worth quite a bit of money to collectors but honestly, most home made customs look like **** tbh and you would have to invest a lot of time into each one to make them look perfect so people don't bother (thankfully).

I highly doubt anyone is making fake Bespin Guards  I think it's far more likely it's just a factory error. Pretty sure I've seen similar happen on other figures too with regard to copyright/date info being absent.

Thanks beginner :D

You definitely can remove copyright info and date stamps. I know there was a period when people were removing them on Fett's in order to fake Meccano no COO variants BUT the aim there was to make as much money as possible from an unsuspecting buyer.

If you found your BBG in a childhood collection or big lot and didn't pay much for it then there seems little point for it to have been altered for financial gain.

Maybe ask Wolff if he has ever seen this type of thing, like I said earlier - I want to say I have but I can't recall which figure or what markings etc but if there is someone that would know it would be Wolff.

I believe these figures are usually classed as 'short shot'?
It's where the plastic has not quite filled the mould but I could be wrong

Yes I talked with aussiejames about it, he told me the story about boba fett and fake meccano.

No I did not find it in a childhood I bought it from sergio on ebay in spain.

But I have a boba also missing the date, I bought that one cheap on ebay from an old lady in the uk some years ago it had been her sons as I understood it :D But the leg on that one looks fine.

I thought short shot was when a foot was too small or a hand was too small, but maybe it is the same with coo :?
