Forgive me if this has been asked a dozen times before..

Does anyone know roughly how long fake carded figures have been around for?
Not the type where the sole purpose is to dupe someone into thinking they are buying an original, but one where a different pic has been used to make a new card. for example a 12 back card of luke with the jedi training ball, something like that..i guess i may as well be asking how long is a piece of string, but if people can remember seeing some custom made items whilst collecting over the years, that would be great.
thank you for your time

Robert

I first saw them on a custom site called TheFfurg.com. There was a template vault which had a lot of regular figure cardbacks as well as even more custom card backs. Some very nicely done too. Iirc, I'm thinking easily 15+ years now.

Well, I made my own custom Slave Leia card back in the mid nineties, and I certainly wasn't the first one to think of doing that.

thanks guys, that ties in with someone telling me they picked up a card 15-20 years ago..I would have assumed it was more recent, but obviously not..its something that no one thinks of, 1 person has an idea, makes it, and then there are hundreds out there a few days later..

I would say even earlier for carded customs, people were making small runs of carded rocket fett's in the 90's as well as Han Stormtroopers etc.

The mass produced reproduction stuff that is meant to be identical to the real deal was all over eBay in the early 00's that's for sure.
