Hi guys,

I bought this loose Yoda from a seller in the States almost 3 weeks ago and paid $15.95 for postage assuming that the seller (omegatanhouston) was sending it by USPS Express Mail International, as stated in the auction

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=011&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=320130440606&rd=1&rd=1

The figure arrived on Wednesday and I was well suprised to see he had sent it in a jiffy bag, by Airmail for the grand total of $1.80  I sent him an email straight away asking if he could explain to me why I had paid so much for Postage and this is the reply I got

I posted the cost in advance before you bid. It is usually a hassle to ship to anywhere in Europe and I take a risk of the item getting lost. I also have to stand in line for a ridiculous amount of time here in the US as the post office is one of the most poorly run government institutions on the continent. Because of all of this being a hassle as well as taking up my valuable time, I raise the price of shipping considerably to discourage the possibility of having to ship to anywhere Europe. However if the the buyer (you) is willing to pay it...then I will ship it. I hope that clarifies. On a side note, I am glad you are pleased with the Yoda. Respectfully, ****....

 Is this guy ****ing for real?

I wouldn't have cared less if he had charged me an extra $5 or so but $14.15 is a scandalous amount to pay for his time and effort.

I just can't decide now if I should leave him a Negative Feedback, Report him to eBay or do both?

How would you lot handle this situation?

Thats bloody disgraceful.
Technically I suppose you agreed to the terms as he clearly stated them, so I guess you can't report him or anything. I guess if he has already left feedback then I'd neg him straight away. If, as I presume he hasn't left feedback yet you could leave a neutral - or as I have done before leave a positive, but give him a 1 star for postage cost and state that the postage was extortionate - this gets your point across and shouldn't irritate him to the point of leaving a retaliatory neg. Of course this is not much of a problem for him.
A bastard indeed.

The thing is that he stated none of those terms before I bid and I did email him before I bought the item. I thought when I paid the $15.95 I was getting USPS Express Mail International instead I got Airmail for $1.80....

The only good point is that he has already left me a positve and left himself wide open for a neg :D

Thats just an excuse mate, everybody has to wait their turn at the post office but it is a stupid amount to charge you...

I would have sent him an email really questioning the p+p, i recently bought a WW1 medal for my dad from the states which is not much bigger than your yoda and i was charged $7 (Ã'£3.50) p+p. When in doubt 'ask', which is what i always do when interested in item from abroad that way you have a response in writing if anything goes tits up.

That really is excess postage, I think you can report him to ebay if you've kept the postage label as evidence.

I'd report him to Ebay and Neg him. He is taking the piss no two ways about it. As you say he states UPS Express mail in his auction and you get Airmail. **** it, he's tried to shaft you so get your own back!

You know what, I'm positive he will relent and give you some form of refund if you go back and threaten to neg him. He's been a member for more than five years, has 720 positive feedback - a 100% unblemished record. You can bet your ass thats worth more than Ã'£10. He will cave in if you threaten him with a neg.

Or I'll eat my hat

I am with everybody else here. Just threaten him with a negative and he will relent. He may give you some emails with very colourfull language in while doing it though.

he says he posted it BEFORE you won?!?!

crock of **** i would demand the difference in my paypal within 72hours or u get the shittiest feedback as deserved for his piss take behavour.
im guessing the service he sent would have been like a recorded service and the budget one he used instead wasnt... it was lucky to arrive i would say.

u could say you will report him first then use feedback as the second bullet see what bother him the most.

i had some asshole send me a re-badged AMD processor before... got my cash back then i demanded he paid the postage and costs for paypal before i returned it

he did surely as he liked his 100% feedback

coco I believe the guy is a wanker and if he states a postage cost it should be near what he says 2 - 3 quid we would not grumble about but Ã'£7-8 is taking the piss have you got the item yet? if yes then complain through Ebay about the cost and tell him :D i am sure he will refund some of the costs. :D

if that cost of postage is to discourage buyers from abroad then why doesnt he just not bother with us foreigners???

cheeky muther ****er !!

get his address and **** in a jiffy bag and send it to him !!

or
set up a dummy ebay account and buy all his "buy it now" items and leave mega bad feedback !!
that would piss him off and deter him from ripping anyone else off as it costs him money to list/relist his items and this will determine his business on ebay (as - would you list items at a buy now price if some nutter kept buying them with a dummy account)this in affect with limit the buyers that would use he service !!!

**** HIM UP !

It's extremely rare, but just recently I got refunded the difference on postage that the seller had over estimated. I couldn't believe it when he sent me 5bucks back.

There are one or two honest sellers on ebay believe it or not

I've actually had that happen twice in the last month. One seller refunded me $0.90! God knows why, I really wouldn't have been that bothered if they had just kept it, but like you say there are a few honest sellers still out there!

i would report him mate, hes making extra cash by charging higher postage costs when he probrably knows hes gonna send it airmail flat rate. hes said on the sail page express mail so that is really what he should post by. i dont know what ebays policy is on excessive postage costs. add Ã'£1.50 or Ã'£2.00 for packaging and cost of getting to the post office, but and extra $14 just because he has to wait in line is a lame excuss, i would neg him big time.

If he's trying to be cheap by sending airmail and charging for express mail just say you haven't recieved it. Paypal says that you have to use a method of postage with tracking or proof of delivery if I remember right.

Then paypal his ass  - he won't do it again

All of them go on about the standing at the Post Office crock of **** and how time consuming it is to fill in the green customs form

None of them ever acknowledge that your winning bid pushed up the final auction price.

Had the same thing last November - charged $13 for a loose figure that was supposed to being sent global priority - turned up in a jiffy bag by regular airmail - so I complained to the seller - he did nothing but tell me all about standing in line and filling in customs forms etc etc and spent more time bitching and whining via email then he ever did standing in line at the Post Office and filling out the green customs form - as I pointed out to him

No refund but the overall price was okay.

Has anybody used the paypal excessive charge claim procedure?
