Hi. New here. I have a query in regards to a starwars toy box/ chest I made a few years ago. Although it pains me, I will soon have to get rid of it for lack of space. I do not have confidence to put it on ebay, as I haven't yet found anyone who recognises what it is. Does anyone believe this has any value? If so, what selling platforms could you recommend?
I would be very grateful for any thoughts.

It's a very nice piece and well made too. It should certainly appeal to some collectors, but if I'm honest, I also think its appeal would be somewhat limited. However, I hope you are able to find the right collector to add this to their collection, maybe on this forum, but if not then perhaps on Facebook or eBay.

Thanks. The limited market and my social media illiteracy has so far kept me out of selling furniture.

As a very basic estimate you should look to cover the cost of materials plus your time, ie £30 for materials plus hourly rate x number of hours

Materials were all waste and off cuts. As for labour, I think it would be naïve of me to expect the money for my time back as it could reach above £1000. It's why Ikea wins.

In that case you need to ask for what you would be happy with and if it doesn't sell then you reduce the price or wait for the right person to find your advert

That's really cool. I would have bought it in its unpainted state, I don't really like the paint job (sorry). I would sell it in a prop replica category and a storage box/trunk category. Unfortunately this sort of thing never recoups the money for work put in. I'd start around £100 and reduce gradually until it sells.

Thanks. You've got a point with the painting, it's been in the back of my mind for sure. If you don't mind, how would you have approached it? All I did was pick up some Johnston's oil based gloss and gave it some with the 2" brush.

I didn't really mean I don't like your paint job, I meant I wouldn't have painted it at all. Just because I like wood, the grain and the nice joints you've made. Looks lovely as it is. I wouldn't go to the trouble of joinery if I was painting it, I'd just use screws or a nail gun. If I was going to paint it I'd spray it. You'd get a much cleaner professional finish, like a kitchen cupboard etc.

I mean no offence at all buddy. Just discussing it with you. It's a beautiful item, well done 👍

Nice item, good work hope you get the money you want for it. You need to find Star Wars fan who loves fishing!

Robstyley your bang out of order! lol Just joking.

No offence taken. For a moment I thought I was going to get some special secret technique or primer to up my painting game. Ta for the feedback.
