That’s a great link.
The Empire Strikes Back is a truly beautiful film. Its greatness however has emerged with the hindsight of seeing the entire trilogy. I’m not sure the majority of fans would have preferred it to Star Wars in 1980. It ended on such a down note and it left so many questions unanswered. As an eleven year-old, I was gutted by my feeling that it didn't have a proper ending, My Hero, Han Solo had been left frozen. I hadn't seen a film end without a resolution before. I didn't know what to think! Where had the end of the film gone?
When the Triple Bill hit cinemas, fans could sit back and enjoy The Empire Strikes Back with the knowledge that everything would work out okay in the end. Nowadays fans can view the entire trilogy at will and appreciate TESB for what it is.
