Just a thought, but if it were a case that a Vintage style of figure/cardback collection was to be released for the new movie, would collectors be interested?

Boils down to the modern v vintage question really IMO
I'm sure if released, there would be a market as with everything SW
A specific release with the film would do very well I'm certain.

There is a market for new stuff, but not for most of us. If they did them with vintage sculpts and articulation to match...that would be brilliant, but will never happen.

I would be ceertainly be interested.
As mentioned it boils down to the modern v vintage stuff debate. At the end of the day no matter how close they can make it to the OT figures just just wont hold the same childhood memories as the original figures did for most on here.

What does it boil down to? Trademark rights, money/ production costs, lack of foresight, apathy?

Seriously, my kids have played with and owned many..they fall apart with little play.
Fingers crossed they carry on the latest trend and go for a vintage style cardback but with 5 points of articulation.
If they do that it's a win win situation - figures are cheaper to produce and it hits the sweet nostalgia button that will have vintage collectors as well as kids buying the new toys.
I know a lot of vintage collectors haven't bought much in the way of modern in the last 30 years but if they pull something special like a 12 back first release I can see a lot of them buying at least the original OT characters Han, Luke and Leia etc.
Sounds like JJ is getting it right - physical props and locations with any luck the marketing guys hit a home run as well and produce figures/vehicles that actually feel like part of our (70's& 80's) SW toy universe

I think people over-estimate the size of the vintage market. To make a toy viable, it has to sell MILLIONS of units, as the Kenner figures did back in their day. There are not millions of vintage collectors, so any toys produced have to be focused firstly at kids, and then any vintage appeal (ie the cardback) is a bonus. But vintage style toys would not sell to kids. Look at the recent Alien figures - cool for us to look at, but zero play value for a modern child that is used to iPads.

Modern collecting is nothing buy an overhyped rip off. £10 for a small action figure, that have pieces fall off-no thanks.
As much as i hate to say it, TPM figures were the last 'normal' SW action figures to be released, but even they were expensive. When i say normal, the articulation on many were what an action figure should be-simple with playability.
Anyone or anybody who thinks the mass produced crap is actually worth having, seriously needs looking at. Tracking down every figure, every variation is bollocks. Just because Disney own it, it wont change anything-except the price will rise...
