Although the title is bollocks I enjoy the prequels and don't have a problem with JarJar or any of the issues. I watch them as a movie not study them.

Is Vader a bad ass in the OT? I guess how you define bad ass. He strangles Antilles.. then after that he actually does very little killing aside from a few in the death star battle and 'killing' Kenobi. In empire i dont think he does any killing, although he does torture and freeze Han solo to tap into Lukes force net thing, then pops off Lukes hand.

In ROTJ he kills some more imperials and the Emperor. In fact he does the killing of Imperial officers quite well and frequently.

In Revenge of the Sith, he slaughters countless Jedi's including kids. Thats fairly nasty. In clones he kills a load of sand people.

Ive often wondered what would have been the better way to do the prequels. For "redemption" you had to have him turn to the dark side at some point, that was always going to be the prequel trilogy. I thought the logic of the story was sound, he wasn't particularly experienced at love, he avenged his mother through guilt, then the only other person he loved, he convinced himself, betrayed him especially after he had embraced the dark side to save her.

The love story with Padme was wooden. I would have had Anakin as a teenager in episode 1 and started the story there, no midichlorian counts, just Anakin being an amazingly powerful padawan jedi - doing some hugely scary things. Anakin could have gone with Kenobi to Naboo to protect the Senator Palpatine, and one of his assistants/guards could have been Padme. No need for Qui Gon. Why not have Obi wan adapt the traits of that role (independent, a little rebellious but a teacher/mentor). I felt his gravitas was underplayed from the outset. Then you could have had the Anakin / Padme story build up a relationship, alongside the plotting of palpatine. Not prancing in fields with cow things and ****ing around with floating fruit, but a real friendship that the audience cared about. They tried to do that in clones but it failed and they hurried towards marriage and it didn't feel like a young love running off to gretna green. The relationship could have been played out against the Jedi council as their way of keeping him out of any involvement. All the while still having the Palpatine / Anakin relationship as he could have egged him on to care about Padme more and more as part of his plan. Then her dying in some hideous way (maybe protecting palpatine by a rogue jedi's hand?).

[The broken heart thing does happen (although I'm not convinced in their teens / twenties). I knew a lovely old couple, married since teenagers, for over 60 years. When he tragically died, she said she couldn't carry on without him and within a week she had "given up on life". It was so so sad. Another pair at the football club, he died early, she followed a few weeks later. She was heartbroken, both were in their 90s.]

With that, you could still have had the same clones, battle droid plots. I would have changed the battle droids voices to be far more cheap and mechanical, not high pitched roger roger. And with my story version, absolutely zero binks or any gungans.

He's still a frightening, looming figure in the OS even when doing nothing at all. I think that was the point being made.
In the prequels he's a sniveling, spoiled, whining little bitch.

Lukes initially a whiny little bitch, much like his father before him - then becomes a kick ass jedi.

Yes, that's the idea tho. He on no level is as bad as Anakin and he learns fast and grows up because he has to. That;s the arch. Without that the story doesn't work.
Anakin on the other hand gets worse and worse with each film.

That is true, but the whiny anakin version was Lucas's attempt to portray a character with skewed emotions (he was a working slave) and a supposed reflection of the failure of the jedi order (training too early and not maybe looking after the needs of individuals?). Luke, despite being orphaned, was bought up in a stable family home. Sure, he wasnt maybe as loved, but Beru and Owen appeared to have given him as much as they could. Thus why you can compare the emotional side of both characters and see why the decisions were made. As badly as the prequels were acted and written, the overall story made sense, just needed somebody to go over it and say "George, thats going to look ****, George, dont do that, everyones going to hate it," etc.

Classic line from a classic film :? ...

"I hate sand. It's grainy and gets in your arse crack" ...or some bollocks like that

Got to agree with Rich.

I often wonder had GL released Episode 1-3 first and then folowed up with episode 4-6 would it have changed peoples perceptions? (Lets presume for the moment that he did have the necessary CGI and special effects to release the films in 1977. :)

!!!! But even as 'movies' they are inconsistent bollocks! Lots of cartoony CGI bollocks with **** acting (from good actors!). If episode 1 was released first then George Lucas would be working in a McDonalds now and we'd be on all different forums!

It's true!

I wonder what we'd all be doing instead :? ......

Star Wars was waiting to be made all other science fiction films were pants up until '77. Typing this wearing my jar jar binks costume and watching Episode 3. If episode 1 had come out in '77 you all would have loved it because George Lucas had a vision for a film at the right time. But he didn't make episode 1 because he new he needed to develop the technology before doing so. I think it's funny this thread is still alive.

If 1,2 and 3 had been made 1st, how awkward would the ESB Luke and Leia kiss been then? :D

Just like all modern SW figures, the modern trilogy films are shite in comparison. Feel free to call me biased.
