EP1 vs EP VII

I voted Episode 1 is bigger. Too many burnt fingers out there. It will be BIG, for sure. But bigger than Episode 1? Hmmmmmmm I actually hope not as it was the expectation which kinda made it worse.

I definitely don't think these will be bigger.
Problem is, as already stated, it's been done before so that feeling just isn't there.
Once Jedi was over, I never expected a new star wars...ever. So when the prequels were announced it was 'oh my God there's another star wars movie.' nearly 16 years with little expectation, just a hope and suddenly it was there!!
Once we knew the prequels were coming I guess a lot of people thought that ep7+ were conceivable. So that wow factor just isn't there.
Plus between Jedi and TPM there wasn't much star wars stuff going on. We had the two brief cartoons (Droids & Ewoks) Then the book in the early 90's, followed by the special additions and the TPM was (before we all saw it) something amazigly different!
Now there is just so much star wars everywhere!! The Sequels seem to just fit in the general Star Wars hype that's around, rather than bringing anything majorly new.
And of course the prequels were a let down and then there's the countless changes made to the originals, so people are cautious about getting carried away with the hype. I think Disney and JJ. Abrams involvement also concern people.
On the other side I think they will try hype it way beyond EP1, especially as now there is even great media opportunities to hype things.
The original cast are involved. Hopefully they learnt some lessons from the prequels, so they can't be as bad.
I imagine hype will raise once more things get found out about the fillms...assuming that what we learn is good is good!
I certainly don't see it as being as high, but it may build eventually to the same level. Just so many ifs and buts!!

I've always wondered how many Parts Star wars really was.
Did lucas from the very beginning have a 3, 6 or 9 part story?

I'm of the opinion that he always had the first part of the story and the 2nd part in very rough draft and decided to go with the 2nd part and split it into 3. There's no way he just had nothing and decided to call a film part IV for no real reason.
When the prequels came along he certainly started making **** up as he went along and crow-barring as much action and nonsense in as he could. I'm pretty sure they lost almost everything of his original ideas. Apart from the gist.

Reuniting the old cast, less reliance on CGI, being Filmed in 35mm...It's already better than the 3 prequels without even seeing a single film cell...or lens flare! :lol:

I'm in the middle of reading this book at the moment and was surprised to see how much of Ep 1 was actually physical sets and models - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Creating-Worlds-Star-Wars-Days/dp/1419707043/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1400768398&sr=1-1&keywords=star+wars+in+365+days
It's a pretty good book with a fair few OT behind the scenes pictures I've never seen before (although it has been a while since I looked through my Star Wars and ESB making of books). It's just a shame that only a third of the book is on the OT and the rest is on the prequels, and also flicking on further with it I do start to notice more and more green screen pictures appearing.
Also as I side note regarding books I've recently finished the Making of ROTJ book which was as in depth as the first two books in this series and a fascinating read. It took some time to get through it all but I found it well worth it.
Well that's my book round up for this month done, on with the debate

The Droids series was pretty bad. Better than Ep.1, but then again Ep.1 is the bench mark on which all Star Wars badness should be measured. HS is so bad it's beyond measurability. And, as most people who have begun watching it haven't made it though to the end, HS cannot be used as a standardised measurement.

I too am currently reading this book (toilet reading :wink: ) and am finding out some interesting facts that I wasn't previously aware of. Good book but it's bloody heavy :!:
I do believe the hype will be just as big as before if not bigger. Yes the prequels were a let down and some people will be less enthused about the next chapter, that is to be expected but if you include the OT happy campers along with the new blood generated from the prequels there are plenty of enthusiasts out there who will suck it all in (SW is still a massive massive pull) and Disney will be there to spoon feed it in as many different ways as possible.
FB and YouTube and the many other media platforms weren't around in 1999 and they will help to ensure the SW Ep VII juggernaut is bigger than ever before.
So even if you don't believe the hype will be bigger I say it will
Any of you in to football?
Be it the local team, the premiership, or your international side, its all the same as a fan; You continue to believe and support your team, follow them and think "This time, this time, they'll win, i know it".
Only they screw up and you lose, you feel let down and that the manager is a dick.
However, the next time they play, you'll be back there again supporting them thinking "This time, this time, they'll win, i know it!" Only this time a lot of us will have our kids with us!

I think the hype will be bigger this time for so many reasons.
Firstly, Disney have spunked a fortune on this. They will put the PR hype machine on overdrive, it'll be massive. What with FB & Twitter there will be so much more promo stuff out there than before.
The band Take That were big in the 90s, but a few years back they were fecking huge cus everyone loves some nostalgia, everyone loves a decent reunion. Al of the 30+ women out there were desperate for it. This is the grown mans Take That reunion!
No one really knew about any of the characters or back story for the prequels. People could take it or leave it, this time we will already know some of the characters and be desperate to know what happened next, not what happened before.
I truly believe in Kathleen Kennedy, that chicka knows what she is doing.

Just think of the massive amount of EU books out there that have in the past sold like hot cakes, purely for that reason, exploring the possibilities of extending the story lines.
Add to the mix, The reuniting of the original stars, the Disney machine etc
I for one will be midnight queuing ......cannot wait 8) 8)
The hairs on the back of my neck are standing on end, just thinking about the lights going down, the hush.....then....the iconic opening score.....boooooom....we're off!
