As of Friday ebay now apply fees to postage for those who weren't aware. This is to address the 'scam' or ripping us and ebay off through excessive postage charges. Ebay say it's an attempt for seller's to offer free or low cost postage.

its no wonder more and more sellers just use ebay to advertise there stuff then do the deal outside ebay , this pisses buyers off but with all those ebay charges / paypal charges and now ebay taking a cut of shipping charges this will be a far more common occurance

Surely the seller will just up the price to compensate for what ebay are taking?

Just what i was thinking. It's complete idiot logic to think sellers would reduce their postage, i.e.; not charge enough to send the ****ing thing. ****ing morons. Why don't they just say: "this is a way of us thieving more money off you."
My postage costs will rise. I'm sure everyone else's will. I need enough to package and send the item or i will not be able to package and send the ****ING ITEM!!! :x :x :x

eBay is getting beyond a joke now. Don't get me wrong I will still use it as it is a good place to get a lot of stuff I want and to sell a few bits, but saying they are doing this to persuade people to reduce postage costs or offer free postage is rediculous. If it cost me £4.00 to send then I charge £4, not anything less because eBay want me to. ****ing idiots.

And surely if you offer free postage then you have to take the postage costs from the sale amount. Which gets a 10% charge anyway. Their claim that this somehow is designed for sellers to lower postage is beyond ridiculous. It really could not make less sense.
This really is the dumbest and most transparently greedy move by ebay yet.

My mum has just asked me about whether what eBay are doing with postage is legal. You already pay any tax on postage so eBay are effectively Harding you again. Any legal people on here confirm this?!?

More infuriating actions from eBay...

But don't forget the muppets that used extortionate postage in the first place that left this door open for eBay to shut when it comes to venting your frustration.

Ebay are a business not a charity, I would fix any holes in my business that people were abusing, which (ignoring the lame and nonsensical PR attempts) is what they are doing.

Anyway, actions speak louder than words, try some of these guys instead...

The same, 10%. Basically, instead of like before they took 10% of the final value the auction ended at, they now include your postage charge in that as well and take 10% from the whole lot. ****ing bollocks.

I've been having a look at another auction site tonight, Ebid. Looks ok, haven't found a lot in the way of vintage yet but, no fee's to list ANY item and I think I read they charge a flat rate 3% fee for any sold item, WAY cheaper than mugyouleftandrightbay!! It also said on the American site you can pay between $5 - $50 a year and pay no extra fee's at all, kind of like a membership. Going to have a more in depth look tomorrow but might be a way forward.

What Pete said, boarders on stupidity, in fact what am I on about, exceeds stupidity.

I hope another auction site takes off, one with better morals.

Could agree Frank.

Thanks for the link JC 8)

No problem Liam

There are alternatives that need a Vintage injection the trouble is eBay rules the waves that why they get away with hike after hike. They get the traffic so the sellers follow.

It would be nice to see better competition, it might make eBay think a bit more...
