I'm trying to list some non SW stuff on Ebay for the auld dear. It's a few of Dad's antiques that he collected and she doesn't want any more.
I have the listings set up and ready to go but for some reason Ebay have decided that I can't set a reserve below £50?

The things are probably worth £20-£40 tops so WHY THE **** would I want a reserve of £50?
Mum wants the things sold but "not given away" mainly cos the auld man would be turning in his grave if he knew we sold them for pennies. Yet Ebay are telling me what reserve I can have!?

According to their chat service items with reserves "attract lower numbers of bids." SO WHAT!? I DON'T CARE!

I have a minimum price I want for the item let me set the ****ing reserve at that level. If it doesn't sell they still get their listings fees FFS. In fact they would probably get two sets as I would end up re-listing. Instead they think it's better that I list and let it sell for a price I may not be happy with, and run the risk of me renagging on the deal.**

We all know they have a fantastic product, but they do absolutely everything possible to make it hard for buyers and especially sellers to use it as it should be. I guess this is just another nail in that coffin.

** Obviously, I wouldn't do this, but sadly on Evilbay these days it seems more and more common for people to not fulfil sales at prices they deem unsatisfactory.

Sorry. Rant over.

List them as buy it now with best offer option, this way you can accept whatever you like and set an automatic decline to offers that are to low....

That's strange, not sure why they would do that, but it's eBay. Logic goes out the window. But being the resident eBay expert, i guess i'd better at least have a go at fixing your problem, despite not really caring at all.
I've never listed anything with a reserve exactly but i have set a higher starting price. A reserve is just a hidden starting price and i don't think they really work anyway. I know i don't bid on stuff with a reserve.

You may not get a free listing but you can list your item with any starting price you want. £10, £20, £200. Whatever.

I just tried it and it works fine.

This isn the bit in the sale set-up.

What do they care?! Turnover is turnover. Strange business sense for eBay if you ask me

...actually no, it's very good business sense. In their eyes 'helping' you sell your item is a sure fire way of them making more money. So long as it sells who cares right? ...turnover is turnover

Ebay sucks, what goes around comes around. Look at Woolworths, used to be the place to buy vintage Star Wars. :?

Yeah, it'll either be a starting price at what the auld dear thinks they are worth or the BIN and I'll accept offers. I knew I would have to do that when I had my rant. It's just annoying that Ebay seem to think they know what I want and tell me why I'm wrong. Helpful advise is one thing, dictatorial patronising "you don't wanna do it like that" BS is another.

I'm no fan of Ebay and this is tempting me to go elsewhere to sell the things. They really are the most retarded company I have ever encountered. Normally companies try to make it easy to use their service, Ebay are the poplar opposite.
