Totally entitled to your opinion.
However my two cents on what Ady is doing with Empire are as follows. As I stated before I love SW:R, I love the colour correction work, the fixing of continuity errors and the tweaking of the effects (what he did with the Cantina Creatures is awesome) But I'm sorry, the outright ****ing around he is doing on Empire is shocking. All that film required after the colour correction **** up that Lucasfilm did on the Special Editions and Blu Ray release was a couple of FX tweaks, I can't actually think of any to be fair right now but there's probably a couple. The adding of additional background characters is ****ing pointless and stinks of a "I'm doing it because I can" attitude. He's just come out and said that he's messing with the At-At's on Hoth to make them look less stop motiony....I'm sorry but WTF!!!! there is nothing wrong with those effects, the stop motiony look adds to the character of those walkers.
I'm all for supporting local filmmakers and genuine Talent (which I believe Ady has) but riding on the back of someone elses talent, Lucas, Kirshner, all the guys at ILM and everyone that made the original films....that I'm not cool with.
You're free to give him your money (I don't think he deserves a penny for all the hours he's put in, his choice his free time) and fair play to you. Oh and as I said before this isn't the first $$$ drive he's done, so it's a bit more than £1500, I think this might actually be the third he's done for Empire.
He didn't ask for a penny when he did SW:R, so why is he asking now for the film that in my opinion required the least amount of "improvement".
Just my opinion on the matter :D

Then move along....

DONATION GOAL "BATTLE OF HOTH" CLIP IS HERE!!!!!!

Well here it is. Although we haven't yet reached 100% of the target, we are now down to double figures so i thought that i would upload the clip now because i'm going to be pretty busy working on ESB:R from now on. It runs for approx 2 1/2 minutes and shows the beginning of the Battle of Hoth. I know i said originally that you would get to see the new shield generator, but i didn't realise until i started rendering the clip that the generator isn't seen until after the clip ends. I will post some screenshots next week sometime so you can see it in the movie.

There are a few tweaks here and there left to do but overall it is 100% complete. As always the audio track is only a temporary track and will be missing sound effects as the audio track won't be started work on until after the video side of things is 100% complete.

Later i will upload a comparison video so you can see just how much has changed from the original

Oh, and you'll know the big secret when you see it so please try not to spoil it for others that might not have seen the clip yet when commenting.

And once again a HUGE thanks to everyone that donated. This just wouldn't be possible without your support

- Adywan

When you compare the screenshots the differences are obviously very noticeable, but I didn't notice 90% of them while watching the clip. In fact all I noticed was the extra AT-STs, and the added cockpit effects, which to be honest I'm not a fan of. Leave stuff like that out IMO, that's how Lucas ruined the Special Editions.

Don't get me wrong I think it will be great to watch, just as the original films were. If all he does is strip out the SE crap and colour correct them, that would be good enough for me to watch them over the originals. I think he just needs to be careful - as with all these things, what starts off as innocent colour correcting can snowball in to the abomination that was the SE films. And I'm not sure he should waste his time doing stuff like adding lines to the Snow Speeders, seriously who notices that kind of stuff?!

My favourite versions to watch are still the theatrical DVDs, because they are literally untouched. ANH even has the title missing from the crawl as it should 8)

Yeah man !

I also like my versions to contain Christmas adverts and adverts for the 'new' ford sierra.

Haha yes I know what you mean. The video of Star Wars I had as a kid was recorded off the TV and had Mickey Mouse on before it.

I only watch the original untouched films too. The Lucas reedits are a joke. However, they do lack in terms of fx in certain areas. The thing that bugs me most is when tie fighters are flying past the screen you can see the little back squares around them where they've been pasted on. For years i've wished i could watch a 'cleaned up' version of the original without all the cartoon dinosaurs and nonsense that Lucas added so for me these reedits are a dream come true. I agree with you tho in that he has to be very careful how much he adds. Only where absolutely necessary imo. Like you say it was the maniacal need to ADD crap that makes Lucas's edits unwatchable.

I'm not fussed about any re-edits and like the original sfx. Part of the problem is how we watch films now, a VHS on an old 28" tv was great because you couldn't see the strings or black squares.

Now on HD tvs everything is so much clearer. When I last watched SW I couldn't believe I'd never noticed before that the the first few lines of soldiers lining the medal ceremony room are all a painted scene. Still would t change it though.
