Do you think patreon on youtube brings out the worse in people?

Random question, but i've noticed that on certain channels on youtube I have subscribed to before they had patreon, they would always like and replay to my comments. But now they have patreon, I haven't signed up to any as I can't really afford it, they never like or reply to my comments even though there are other users posting comments at the same time or after, the channel owner likes and replies to them.

I have no idea what that is
I am so glad that you asked, as neither do I have any idea what he's going on about.

From what I know it's a kind of sponsor thing where watchers/fans pay to fund the youtubers.

Just don't quote me on that because I also know nearly zilch about it.

Patreon is a cross channel 'subscription' service. The page 'owners' generally can and do charge a fee through Patreon for additional content that is exclusive to those subscribers on their Youtube/websites. In most cases these additional subscription exclusives are sold on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter etc and then once paid for, accessible on YouTube or their own websites. So they'll show a minute of a 20 minute clip... or one of 10 images... want to see more head over to Patreon and subscribe.

Obviously as well as more mainstream content, there are lots of lovely ladies that have Patreon services...

Despite its weird spelling (possibly something to do with Patron Tequilla?), Patreon is simply another way of being a Patron of a service/person etc.

Hope that helps...

Thanks for the clear and concise description of how this works, I suspect that the spelling threw us off!
Certain type of "ladies" you say... :?

Its basically internet begging ........ Really gets my goat

I don't agree. I am someone who contributes just a couple of quid a month to two different content creators.

People used to make money out of youtube advertising but this has become harder and harder to do due to content having to be 'family friendly' in order for creators to get paid. Which is bollocks because their video's will still automatically have adverts on even if their content isn't family friendly, with swearing and stuff.

As such if I feel that if a content creator really puts out some good stuff, I don't mind paying a few quid a month if it means they don't have to battle with youtube for the money they are owed, and they can invest more time in creating awesome content.

Both people I contribute on Patreon to cover retro video games- Guru Larry and Kim Justice, both of whom have done some fantastic British computer game documentaries, stuff I would love to see on TV and stuff, but there probably will never be a documentary on British TV covering the History of Ocean Software or the Amstrad computer because it's too specific and probably wouldn't get the numbers in. But I'd rather watch stuff like that than shite like Eastenders but people still pay for a TV license to pay for the BBC.

Sorry for the rant, but I think begging is a harsh word considering the amount of time some people put into their content and don't necessarily get much money from it.

I've no horse in this race, so to speak, but paying for a TV licence isn't optional!
Legally you have to have one.
As I said, I'm not on any side in this debate, but your post implies we get the choice of paying for a TV licence. We don't.
Though, I am with you on Eastenders being shite!

Its because its really difficult to do things for free. Often these fun projects become like a second job.

Fair enough I suppose
