Hi chaps.
Just found this in a skip down the road from me and thought how cool would it look filled with loose minty white imperials :)
Its nearly as tall as me and will need a good resto, which I plan to do in the summer.

I just wanted to ask about other peoples display cases and find out if there is such a thing as UV protected glass and if it is really necassary.
It will go on a main wall in my room so will get light from the window, but not directly if you know what I mean. Didnt really want to replace the glass, so wondered if there might be another soloution. I also wondered if there would be any danger of chemicals such as paint or varnish reacting with the fiqures over time??
Apologies if this all seems a bit daft but I have spent 20 odd years collecting boxed vehicles and mint loose fiqures, so dont want to risk anything bad happening to them.
Does that mean that all the star cases I have seen for sale and the deltov ikea cabinets use uv protected material???
I appreciate your time and help fellas :)

Great :) I was hoping there would be something like that available. Post a link if you can and if I find any examples on the net, Ill post them to :)
Any idea on what the stuff is called?

Just done a quick search for UV protected film and found this link among a few others, which they can cut to size :)

All your stuff is gona degrade over time . Sunlight , air and moisture from your fingers / the air will at some point make the plastic and paper degrade . Things in the suranding environment ma also react with the plastic etc and speed up the degrading .

So be careful with your beloved toys .

That film is used for tinting car windows. Just search tinting film on the net or try a large car parts place, Halfords might do it.

That cupboard thing could be cool. Get a cheap electric palm sander and give the whole thing a going over. Then you could build custom shelves inside to put figures/boxes on. I painted mine with white emulsion and once dry sanded it back with some fine paper to get a smooth finish. Easy really. If you paint that you will need some wood primer.

Sweet. Thats pretty much along the lines of what I planned. Think ill keep the wood finish but might get some space type wall paper for the inside of the case :)
Looking forward to it now:)

Good project mate. Keep us posted. Check out my showcase (way down on the first page). Custom built that cabinet. It was nicer but had to saw it in half to fit in the attic when we moved house. It use to be a trophy cabinet in a golf club. 8) I built the shelves, measuring them to fit boxes and with head height for the figures.
