Derisory best offers on ebay,is it just me or what!!

Hello again

I just wanted to see if i'm the only mug on earth that gets shockingly bad offers on ebay when i list on buy it now or "best offer"

Now i know there is a credit crunch and all that but some of the offers i have received have made me laugh,I personally only ever go 20% down from list price at the very most buying or selling,I could do with knowing your opinions on what you would feel is a reasonable offer and what is taking the piss.

My best one was £35 for a afa80 graded moc figure listed at a reasonable £90 or "best offer" :shock:

This could be an EXAMPLE - potf wicket afa 80y moc,subs c80,b80,f90,bin or best offer £130.............go on send those offers in (just for fun!)

Maybe i'm just pricing them wrong,maybe i'm tight,maybe the credit crunch is worse than i thought or maybe i'm just a c**t!!!....probably the latter :wink:

Any opinions will as ever be appreciated

I think people will always try their luck, i dont find it offensive if i get a low offer, i just counter offer and take 1p off the price, or set the auto reject function which will stop you having to bother if someone offers too low.

i myself sometimes offer low...maybe 50% and see what the seller really wants for it.

Take for example my last sale, a 12 back stormtrooper with pop removed and reglued, i would have accepted £50, it put it up at £99 or best offer, i got an offer of £60 and accepted it...40% less than the BIN.

dont take it as offensive when they do bid silly amounts, just set the auto reject options

Interesting stuff Andy. I've never really played with best offers. I always look at the Buy it now & if that's too high i don't bother bidding. Mabe next time i'll try the 50% option. worth a try...

I know what a pain low ballers can be, but like Andy says, just set the filter to reject anything that is blatantly taking the piss!

I've made a few low offers myself. I think I got an item listed at £650 for £430 once. But, I don't make a habit of doing it. There are plnety of people looking to pick up items on the cheap to flip and make a few quid on, and they are prefectly within their rights to do it. As are you perfectly within your rights to reject their offer and ban them if they keep doing it.


I remember reading a thread on RS where James Gallo was complaining about being banned from bidding on someone else's auctions. Turned out he had been low balling the guy and the guy got ****ed off with it and banned him. Although, because it was James Gallo low balling some one with much less history/fewer connections in the hobby obviously he was the saint and the other guy was the arsehole! :roll: But then that's RS

Hello the best thing to do is list your item and chose the 2 amounts people can win or lose on your item on.
For instance if its a £150 item buy it nor or submit best offer then chose to possibly accept £125 and the box below put £125 as the price you wont accept anything less. Then at least you dont have to put up with the cunts mind my French that are just chancing their hands at disrespectful low offers.
Well thats what I do anyway. You will know over time if your asking for too much if months go by and it hasn't sold.

I just offer what I feel the item is worth.

If the seller is offended , tough, they dont have to sell it do they?

And you can counter offer anyway, so there isnt really a problem.

As Grant said above if you are too dear in the first place, all you will get are low offers or no sale.

the vast majority of the good starwars stuff is way overpriced anyway..its the damn fees they hit you with ! i offer 50 % first then up to 70% or so and message the seller and 95% of the time i get it :wink: :mrgreen:

If i was selling a VC Jawa and some **** offered me £25 and if I accidentally hit the accept button I wouldnt give a ****. There is no way in hell you would send the figure. Possibly some hate mail or a turd in a box. :wink:

I think it is just part of the ebay game. Whenever I have the make an offer option available, I expect to get some lowball offers. I recently sold a video camera of mine. I researched completed auctions to see about what it would sell for and the prices ranged from $450-$550. I decided to put a buy it now at $500 with the make an offer option. I was willing to go to about $450 if it was offered. I had a couple offers at $200, which I thought was a joke, but I still sent them a counter offer of $450. After a few days, I had someone interested that wanted me to ship internationally. He was willing to go for the $450 price. During the process of communication I had someone else simply hit the buy it now on the auction, so I got my full asking price. I was happy with how that turned out.

As has been said you can simply set it up to automatically decline low offers, which if I had a ton of stuff for sale, I would consider using that feature.

To be totally honest I never realised that you could automatically decline or accept offers if specified,what a plum!

Dont get me wrong i'm all for a bargain,I just dont like taking the piss,I tend to stick to boot fairs for my bargains or the odd lucky auction on feebay!although you get plenty of "experts" at boot fairs too,(that one legged klaatu is rare you know!)and suddenly i'm the one taking the piss offering 10p for it?!

Ron surely that £25 offer for the moc vcj was missing a couple of zero's?I think i'd do a grant and curl one out and post it! :lol:

The world is full of chancers. There is nothing wrong with bagging a bargain but some people just try taking the piss which can be annoying to say the least.
