STRIKEMEDOWN
Padawan
Just recently finished this miniseries and absolutely loved it. Cullen Bunn is one of my favourite comic writers and I only found out he'd written for star wars recently. Absolutely heartbroken this is his only Star Wars series (+ Star Wars Annual #4) because I just couldn't put it down! the art was absolutely gorgeous and I felt like the story really set up his character in TPM.
In this interview: https://web.archive.org/web/2019021...eries-plus-a-first-look-at-new-variant-covers Bunn describes Maul as a 'chained beast' basically frothing at the mouth ready to kill jedi and this comic for me really set that up well and makes an excellent contrast to the jedi teachings. I adored the concept of Sidious building and building Maul's anger but also holding him back from releasing it to the point where when he does snap and it doesn't bring him relief he's too trapped in the darkside to see that the anger doesn't serve him and instead belives he has to kill more jedi.
It's just a brilliant story and I'll awlays admire Bunn's ability to convey so much in so few pages. My favoutive comic of all time is his 10 page one shot for Deadpool: Seven Slaughters for the same reason, so much in so little. If you haven't read this miniseries I highly recommend it and if you have I'd love to hear some other thoughts on this!
