I can't believe so many have them and enjoy them in their collections. They are fake, end of story. They may look the part on display, but so do repro weapons.

I wouldn't buy one now for a focus or otherwise knowing what I know. The danger is it will encourage more fakers if people start collecting them. I do have one though, it's a 65 back Chewie and the first MOC I bought (as an adult). I love it and I'll be keeping it. It reminds me of when I started collecting, my naivity and is part of my collecting journey. It's an important piece to me.
