Wonder what the condition was. £45k seems cheap for these. I'm sure there are guys one or two off a collection who would take the ones they need and sell the rest.

Impressive to see though.

They came from Nigo's collection, the entire auction catalogue can be seen here: http://www.sothebys.com/pdf/2014/HK0552/index.html

Nigo is this guy if the name doesn't ring a bell: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waKYV9YJpBI

Ahhhh. Ok, I know who you are talking about now.

Nigo is responsible for high end Japanese street wear. His label is called a bathing ape, or bape for short. He's also chums with pharrell and has collaborated with adidas on some footwear that sells for mega money.

I think he also helped pharrell get the ice cream and billionaire boys club labels off the ground.

If your ever in London they have a store there. If £60 for a tshirt is your thing, check them out

I think that's a more than decent price, they look very nice quality.

I wonder what made him sell? Doesn't seem like he needs the money :D

Have no idea of condition details but yeh 45K seems v cheap as a friend of mine sold his 9 Empire 3 packs last year for 125,000 USD

Wow there's some sweet stuff in that catalogue.
Nigo is a serious collector of pop culture, a magazine I was working with interviewed him in the mid 90s. From what I could gather ( he didn't speak much English in the interview) he was a nice guy.

A recent interview with him here

This does seen like a strange auction. The price was very good in my opinion. Buyer got a good deal. I knew this set was out there but I thought he didn't want to sell them. Also, why sell them through Sotheby s? That seems like a strange call. Anyhow, I would certainly like to get hold of the white bespin set ep if it pops up.

I agree doesn't seem right to me. :?

I think its the first time I have seen them altogether before, I can really see the appeal of these especially as a set.

It would have been even better if Kenner included all of the first 30 figures in the sets but some are missing like Luke, chewie etc..
On the video he said he was never going to sell his stuff and keep them for the next generation…can't see the point of that though.

Although £45,000 is a lot of money it isn't for a complete set of 3 packs, if this was auctioned on E-bay it would easily hit around £70k or more IMO.

Like I said my mate got $125,000 just for the 9 Empires :!:
